Responsibilities of a Project Manager
Development of a web application for social media research centre
To produce high quality research and information
The current project will help in producing high quality research for the research centre. The proposed research centre will focus on social media due to the changing trend and development in information technology. It will provide a place to all the students where they can update and download all the relevant information about their research projects.
The present research centre does not have any scholarly research output method. David has been facing high pressure as the centre is not able to produce high quality research which is required from it. Therefore, web application development has been chosen for the project.
It will provide an advantage to the research centre as the members can update their information and perform various activities through an online portal (Alotaibi & Mafimisebi, 2016). Furthermore, it will be used for displaying programs, presentations and other information for any events which will help in promotions and advertisements.
Web application will consist of internet and intranet to improve communication between students and members. The primary deliverable is website development.
There are various stakeholders attached to the project such as students, members, supervisors etc. The website will contain information about researches, publications including journals and conferences, project reports, presentations etc.
The project should include networks, hardware, experts and software to complete (Srivannaboon & Munkongsujarit, 2016). It will have both internet and intranet for communication.
It should be complete in 8 months commencing from 1st April 2017 and in the given budget of AUD 50000. It is essential to identify the areas of impacts and project constraints before commencement of the project.
The current project will provide a website to the social media research centre which will allow them to display all the information at one place. The present research centre has no scholarly output research centre which has affected the quality of the researches. It will solve this problem and it will ensure better communication between students and members. There are certain areas of impacts which have been included in the project. They have been ranked according to their importance:
Social impact: Website application will have positive impact on the society as it will provide relevant information to all the people. It will improve the knowledge of students because they have better access to information which will help them in their research (Steyn, Dekker & Visser, 2016).
Operational impact: Website application in social media research centre will improve the operational efficiency and performance of the centre. They can upload all the information on the website which can be accessed easily by anyone. Furthermore, internet and intranet will solve many problems and the quality of the researches will also improve.
Strategy impact: Website application is an important part in social media connectivity as it provides them a source of communication. Social media has gained importance and it the research centre is also based on it. Inclusion of a website will help in strategic development and it will have positive impacts on strategy.
Role of Management in Projects
Customer impact: Customers includes the entire stakeholder associated with research centre. It includes professors, students, scholars, experts and community. Website development will have positive impacts on the stakeholders as they will be having better access to all the information. It will save time and efforts (Turner, 2016).
Financial impact: Website development and planning will increase the expenses of the research centre. It will have negative impacts on them. But this change is essential for resolving the main issue of the centre which will provide them long term benefits.
Cheaper: The website development project will increase the operational efficiency and performance of the centre. The students and members can find all the information at one place. It will reduce costs and tine. Apart from this, all the documents can be uploaded and no paperwork has to be done.
Better: The project will improve the quality of the research output which was the main objective of the project.
Stakeholder metric:
- Members: They can upload all the information on the website which can be accessed by everyone.
- David and senior executives: The main problem of David was that his centre was not able to deliver quality research outputs. Website application will solve his problem.
- Researchers: They will get all the information about events, publications and project reports.
- Students: They will get better information about various details and topics.
Acceptance Criteria
- The success or failure of the project is dependent on its completion. It should be completed in stipulated time and cost.
- Website development is the main deliverable of the entire project. It should serve the purpose of the research centre. It should improve the overall quality of the research output.
- The duration of the project is 8 months and it starts from 1st April 2017. It is expected to complete on 30th November 2017.
Assumptions and Constraints
- Resource availability is the main assumption which has been included in the current project of website development.
- Budget and time are the main constraints (Martinelli & Milosevic, 2016). Apart from this, technology is also important. Manager should take care of the latest technological developments and make sure all the changes are included in the current project.

Website development can solve many problems of the centre and it will help them to improve. I have learned a lot from the project. Project management and social media have played an important role in the project. There are certain pitfalls which have to be avoided such as not setting time limits for different process, coordination and deciding the contents of the websites. These pitfalls have to be avoided. Time, cost and expertise can affect the project. On the other hand, external influences will not the project.
It includes signatures and comments of all the stakeholders.
Plan purpose: Communication plan has been developed to coordinate activities of different people involved in the project. Project manager will use tele-communication, e-mails and inter personal meetings to establish better understanding with all the stakeholders. Downward communication is used because it will ensure the flow and all the activities will be aligned to each other in the entire project (Konstantinou, & Müller, 2016). Effective communication ensures better coordination and accountability.

Change Management: Project Manager can use Deming Cycle in the current project. It includes four steps: Planning, Doing, checking and acting. Website development project can be completed effectively with proper planning and communication. Furthermore, Deming Cycle will help the project manager to access the progress of the project and comparing it with the actual Plan. He can make necessary changes in it if required. It will allow the manager to complete the project in stipulated time and given budget. These two factors play a major role in the success of the project.
Meeting agenda: The agenda of the meeting is to decide the communication plan and objectives of the project. It is essential for all the stakeholders and team members to understand the primary deliverables of the project (Heagney, 2016). It will help in coordinating the activities of different people working on the development of website application.
