Objective: To provide you with an opportunity to use reflection to support your own ability to work inclusively and with an understanding of others.
Explain what is meant by reflecting on your own social, cultural perspectives and biases and provide one (1) example of your explanation
Response: Reflecting on my own social, cultural biases and perspective generally mean how would I reflect on the concept or the situation of social influence and the native environment from my eyes. It generally influences my perspective about society and culture and how will I define it accordingly. Whereas cultural bias involves my phenomena or thoughts of judging and interpreting through my own culture. Such for example, I used to aim for eye contact to listen to them or approach them directly, but many cultures see it as a rude or disrespectful manner of approaching.

Racial |
My cultural bias recognizes the racial diversity all over the world. I have been taught from my childhood that all people irrespective of culture or race and religion should be respected equally. Besides this, I have been told by my elders to respect and treat well with different people. Since it is not free from any biases. However, earlier, one of the common personal biases used to be believed, that blacks are known to be dishonest people, but I have grown up knowing that their races or colours should not judge people. On the other hand, there was a fact, that our culture is the best and superior to all the cultures. So, referring to the early facts I also believed that my own culture is best compared to others. Sometimes, when any problems or misunderstandings arise with other people, I do not listen to the other’s point of view and show them that they are wrong and I was right according to my culture. Secondly, I cannot keep calm when any other culture or races people argued about by showing their culture and race. |

Explain how your identified bias in question may impact your work. Identify three (3) strategies you might use to maximise outcomes for clients
How might your bias impact your work |
Three strategies to overcome your bias |
I believe that personal and cultural bias regarding racial diversity can affect negatively my work. Not listening to or treating unequally with people of different races can lose people and friends in the workplace. It will also hamper the work due to a lack of communication problems. |
Increase the contact with the proper and relevant groups of people. |
Find out about new opportunities, be proactive and speak up accordingly. |
|
Ignore cultural offensive and race-based pranks and humour. |
Using the table below identifies three (3) areas of diversity in the grey space provided. (Examples can include; disability, religious/spiritual beliefs, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, People from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds, People with English as a Second/or Other Language).
Provide a strategy for each identified area of need that you would undertake to improve your social awareness and empathy for working with people with specific needs.
Area of Need: Disability |
Strategy 1: Flexible approach is required to improve the social awareness of the disability. I would like to undertake a flexible approach to ask them first and follow their lead, aware of providing them with personal space in the workplace and also flexible with their family members as well |
Area of Need: Race or religion |
Strategy 2: Encourage people to accept the differences f religions and races. I would undertake a strategy where people must be treated equally irrespective of race and religion. |
Area of Need: Sexual orientation |
Strategy 3: I would like to make a strategy to establish a clear and directed policy that prohibits discrimination. Besides this, I will likely provide training regarding ant-discrimination |
Objective: To provide you with an opportunity to value and respect diversity and inclusiveness across all areas of work.
Give examples of how diversity can provide benefits to staff, clients and the organisation within a workplace.
Example 1: Benefits of diversity to staff |
Having various perspectives from people in the workplace with different types of backgrounds can expose them to different types of leads and understanding which can lead to maximising creativity (Velten. et al 2018). |
Example 2: Benefits of diversity to clients |
According to Hunt. et al (2018), organizations that supported diverse people generally meet the requirements of clients by solving the client’s problems faster and maintaining great communication with the clients. Creativity leads to innovative and generous thinking, which results in achieving the best outcomes. |
Example 3: Benefits of diversity to the organisation |
An organisation having diverse people in their workforce set to make better decisions in less time. This helps them to take major advantages over their competitors in the market. |
Explain how you could coach/mentor your colleagues to develop professional relationships when interacting with and supporting people from diverse backgrounds?
Response: According to me, developing professional relationships while interacting with the people from different backgrounds, I would mentor them by developing a strategic and friendly training program, will also communicate with the staff members about the importance of managing the business, also allow the people to freely express their requirements and problems, and lastly I will mix up the teams to get the outcomes.

Always support other people while communicating with them, it will make it more comfortable for the other party (Hua. et al 2018) |

Strategies to support |
Communication |
Keep a smile- In cross-cultural communication, according to me, smiling is one of the keys practise which can make the effective communication. |
Misunderstanding of concepts and language |
Use Visuals- Words can fail to understand the concept of people from different cultures, whereas visuals like images and diagrams can make a huge change to understand the facts. |
Hesitate to communicate or share the point of view. |
Take turns to talk- In this case; I would like to speak with the others to make the conversation freer. It can be effective as after listening to the other’s point of view, I can place my statement also. |
