Reflection on Assessment 1 – Literature Review
This journal provides the reflection the assessment 1 and assessment 2. The assessment 1 reflects the understanding from the literature review about the opportunities making business with mobile computing. This paper provides the reflection on the strength and weakness of literature review on Opportunities Making Businesses with Mobile Computing. At the same time, assessment 2 reflects the understanding and the application of the research methods. The assessment 2 reflects on the research questions, questionnaire, interview, research type and design, sampling, and research limitations.
Journal on reflection of learning from assessment 1:
The assessment 1 is the literature review that provides the general understanding about the opportunities making business for mobile computing. I learned that the literature review is the part of research process that comes before the research methodology. The literature review is the source of secondary data and secondary research. From the lectures of secondary data, I learnt that secondary analysis is the collection and analysis of data from the available sources. Secondary data is economical and is of high quality. It allows the deep study and more time for the data analysis. On the other hand, data in secondary analysis may be large and missing of variables. This provides that what information is available and what new the researcher can collect that helps in designing the questions and deciding about the research methods. The researcher must gather the information from the available recent literatures to gain the basic information about the current scenario
There are various statistical tools are available to analyze the data. I learnt that the analysis may be bivariate analysis and multivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis is the analysis of two variables at one time while multivariate analysis is the analysis of more than two variables at one time. I learnt that statistical analysis provides information about the risk in the research problems. The literature review is the review of information available in text books, official documents, newspapers, and scholarly articles. I learnt to use of the secondary data analysis for ensuring that the secondary data to be used in the research has good quality or not. Different statistical tools such as mean, median, mode, and standard deviation can be used to identify the risk and variation in data. have learned that opinions and ideas of others should not be used and copied in writing the literature, if ideas of others are used must be credited to the original authors by using reference and citation. I have applied this understanding and used number of reference in writing the literature review.
Understanding of Mobile Computing and Its Benefits
Furthermore, I have learned that effective writing skills are necessary for developing or writing a standard literature review. The information to be used in the literature review must be relevant and reliable as it affects the research result. I put the information in literature review from recently published sources in order to ensure the validity and reliability of research. I have experienced that the information to be included in the literature review must be relevant to the research topic that can help in achieving the objectives of research effectively.
I researched about the mobile computing and learned that it is an effective open innovation. Mobile computing technology has made it easy for the workers to develop, access, and communicate any kinds of data without realizing the location constraints (Rahimi et al., 2014). I got the information that mobile computing ensures the effective communication of business with personnel, who are disconnected to business due to location distance. The internet helped in filtering out the irrelevant source and information, and I found the right sources where from I could use the information.
Journal on reflection of learning from assessment 2:
The assessment 2 is about the research proposal that has to be prepared before conducting the practical research. Apart from this, I have learned the concept and component of the research methodology. I can use this leaning throughout my life to resolve any problem and research. I can use this understanding and learning in my course as well. I have learned that the research methodology is an important part for conducting a research. The research methodology comprises of the research methods to be used in the practical research. The research methods have to be decided in the research process before embarking on the practical research. It is because the research methods are used at different phases of the research process such as data collection, sampling, types of data, research design, and others. I have learned that the there are two kinds of the research design such as qualitative and quantitative research design. From the assessment 2, I have learned that qualitative research focus on the assessment of the problem based on the qualitative information. In qualitative research, the researcher uses open ended question in unstructured interview format to collect the information. However, the assessment 2 reflects that qualitative research is very challenging as it is very hard to handle the huge data and interpret that accurately. The researcher in qualitative research faces difficulty and challenges in examining the issues already examined.
Reflection on Assessment 2 – Research Methodology
Furthermore, as per my understanding from my lectures that the quantitative research is the kind of research collects the numerical data and provides results based on analysis of that data. In case of quantitative, simply close ended questionnaire is used consisting of different kinds of question such as rating scale, yes or no, option based and others (Hansmann et al., 2013). The interview may be in structured and unstructured format. The structured interview is the interview in which the question to be asked are predetermined and the interviewer prepares his or her self before the interview. At the same time, the unstructured interview is the interview in which the interviewer puts up questions instantly developed. I also leant the issues in the survey that the survey may be expensive and may provided biased information. I also learnt that observation may be the tool of survey that may in structured and unstructured, and participative and non participative observation. There is prepared schedule for the observation that must be easy to operate. Along with this, observation may be for long term and short term as well. The reliability and validity of the data has to be assessed after collection of data. The observation is more accurate over the interview and questionnaire method. However, it neglects the social context of behavior in the research. Similarly, I learnt that content analysis is the analysis of content in texts and documents for ensuring the relevancy and reliability of data. It includes the coding of schedule and selecting sampling date, sampling media and others. Apart from this, I learnt that the reactive effects must be considered but not be exaggerated. Along with this, the clarity of the research questions play very important role in the effectiveness of research.
Apart from this, the assessment of research proposal reflects that the sample must have to be taken to analyze the problem as it is impossible to assess the whole population to resolve the research problem. The sample should be in proper amount, not more or less. Furthermore, from the lectures, I learnt that sampling is the process of picking up the some samples from the population using simple random sampling methods or using another nor probability sampling methods. From the lecture notes, I learnt that the sampling may be in different forms such behavior sampling, focal sampling, and scan sampling. This business research has improves my research learning. As I have learned, the researchers face challenge in determining the sample size and selecting the sampling methods. Apart from this, the research methods should be determined considering the requirements and the research topic.
Therefore, I applied this understanding in the research study and I have selected the mixed research design combination of qualitative and quantitative research. This learning might help in determining the research methods in the research study I will be doing in future to complete my course. Apart from this, I can use this in my professional life. I might apply the knowledge that I have developed by reading the assessment 2 and from lectures, for improving the effectiveness of the results of my professional research. I would be able to take rights decision regarding the research methods that will contribute in effectiveness of my research.
Conclusion:
From above, it can be concluded that the journal prepared above including the reflection of assessment 1 and assessment 2, has effectively described and summarized the understanding and application of information about the research methodology and literature review on the research topic. From the assessment 1, it is found that mobile computing technology has reduced the location barrier in interaction of mobile based personal with the information system. It is found that software, communication technologies, and hardware can be used to execute the mobile computing. Furthermore, it is found that the mobile computing can help in improving the quality of information, quality and efficiency of operation and management. From assessment 2, it is found that the there are two types of research which include qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative research focuses on the qualitative information while quantitative research focuses on numerical data. It is found that sample should be in proper amount to analyze the research problem. The sample size in assessment 2 is only six that is very less. Apart from this, the journal also reflected that how the understanding can be used in the future.
