Mobile App development project in Montech Private Limited
The content of this specific reflective paper is focused on three different organizational case scenarios respectively Mobile App development project in Montech Private Limited, Website upgradation project of ABC consultancy and a Cloud based Information System (IS) development project of Globeforce solution. Three of the situations that I have chosen are completely different from each other moreover the difficulties and opportunities associated to theses scenario are also various. Through critically analyzing three of the scenario I will represent critical reflection describing whether the scenarios are Good, Bad or Ugly. At the end of the reflective paper the lesson learnt from the project management prcatices are also elaborated in the paper.
It has been analyzed that without professional project management practices, tools and techniques a project can never meet its objectives and success as well. It is the responsibilities of the project heads to consider all suitable approaches because only the perceived values and the potential contribution of project management practices can drive any project towards success. The background scenarios for three of cases are completely different and the success scales of the projects are also different. Just because of different usage of the project management practices how a success of project might vary is elaborated in this reflective paper.
Description and context of the case
Nowadays, millions of apps are found to be available for various stores to the Smartphone users. Not only this but also each day different small to medium businesses are also implementing their own mobile app to make their offers much user friendly. The overall complexity for both the service providers and users get minimized with the implementation of the Mobile app. Montech Private Limited is a tours and travel agency which operates their online service allover Australia. However, in order to minimize the operational complexities in the year of 2017 planned to design and develop a mobile app for the android users and in 2018 January they have launched their mobile app. Though, currently they are working for IOS users also.
After analyzing the Montech Private Limited case I felt that this project is a “Good”. The established technologies that are followed for this specific project are absolutely commendable. I also felt that the guidelines are all maintained appropriate while designing and developing the mobile app project. Furthermore, I think that for any mobile app development project continuous improvement is too necessary and the assigned experts for the project have successfully adopted all the needful techniques and procedures. Even while making changes in terms of user interface design, user experiences linking the developers have considered each feedback and needful changes in mind. I feel that adoption of agile project management methodology is the best approach which is chosen for developing project. Though, lack of experiences and informed resources are certain issues which Montech Private Limited has initially faced but those are also resolved with the implementation of the professional project management practice. I feel that that these are the reasons for which this case can be identified a “Good” one.
Website upgradation project of ABC consultancy
I have also realized that the first degree data collection techniques and SW development practice and resource analysis are also done professionally. Selection of SW engineering approach for designing the mobile app is one of the smartest steps undertaken. I have to say, though at the initial stage certain functional inconsistencies are identified but the developers and assigned testers have overcome all these challenges sooner. Instead of focusing on the entire Operating System platform they put their concentration on the android users first which is another praiseworthy action. Above all theses I believe that project management practices have successfully handled the communication errors and all operational risks. It also helped the users to take effective decision for the project. I think that above all theses application efficiency and functional abilities are the main reasons for which I nominate this case as “Good”.
Description and context of the case
ABC consultancy is a consultancy service proving company which offers their services to other small and medium sized organizations of Australia. The company provides professional level advises to other companies. In order to achieve the aim, objectives and goal of the companies these kinds of advice are very much essential and helpful. With changing timeline the demand for their services among the clients are increasing and ABC consultancy is failing to manage their clients. In order to avoid this error they planned to upgrade their existing website in 2016 and initiated to incorporate these change and make the final launch before the end of 2017. Though, they have implemented this project and now they are using this website for managing their clients and data as well but still during and even after implementing the project also they are facing major challenges simultaneously.
After successfully analyzing the case details I have realized that the main issues that ABC consultancy had faced are managerial challenges. The assigned project team members were failed to make accurate decision for the final solution and there was continuous internal conflict among the project team members while they were working on the website upgradation project. The assigned project team members were not enough experienced and professional and as a result the risks that ABC consultancy faced were overrunning budget and over allocated time. As the allocated time was exceeded thus, the budget uptake was also increased from the planned amount. In order to upgrade the website they should have used some kinds of CMS instead of using the old days HTML. They followed most of the old versions of application and traditional development approaches avoiding newer versions. Then there were certain code errors and they had to spent additional time for fixing those errors. I think for each project the knowledge areas that are needed to be considered to convert its result to a Good one.
I have learnt that the supervisor assigned for the project was not experienced and thus failed to follow all the project management practices steps in terms of initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closure. Due to skipping some of the phases the project failed to meet the preliminary objectives and aims. It is the aim of the project manager and the project team members to follow all phases according to the project needs. I think that, accurate in houses resources and different disciplines of project tools and techniques should have to be chosen by the project manager and the project team members to meet the objectives. While putting any business to the online platform the need of project management practices become very crucial one. Detailed planning exercise must be followed to fulfill the project needs. Due to misconducting the project team members while designing and developing the website upgradation project the issues have raised. I think that, these are the main reason for which this case scenario can be identified as a “Bad” One.
Cloud-based Information System (IS) development project of Globeforce solution
Description and context of the case
Globeforce solution is an online electronic product delivering company which operates their offering and services in New South Wales Australia but not all over Australia. In order to reach the global market the company is focused to design and develop a cloud based EEP solution (Information System) to reduce the complexities of selling and buying chain of Globeforce solution. I feel that project management prcatices are the main processes those are to be followed by the project manager and the project team members during the project design, development and even after the implementation of the project. In order to design this project accurately iterative agile project management method should be selected. However, they failed to choose suitable project management practices and as a result the project failed to meet its objectives.
I have analyzed that the entire case and identified that iteration or sprint planning, execution of the sprint, daily team synchronization, complete requirement demonstration, retrospective and refinement of list of requirements are the phases to be followed by the project manager failed to follow these phases accurately. I think that for this specific case the reasons of project failure include bad leadership, lack of motivation, inadequate documentation, inexperienced project manager and lack of communication. I think that if these control factors are properly measured and Adopted by the project managers then chances of project failure will also reduced. The development process should be designed based on certain practical experiences but they failed to manage these. These are the reasons for which I think that this specific case scenario is an example of an “Ugly” project. I think that, before initiating the project plan the project managers should keep in mind about both the clients and consumers need Apart from this, real time project management factors would have been implemented by the project managers for the evaluation of the website upgradation project.
I have learned that in order to execute any project successfully considering its objectives and aims the five steps that are to be followed by the project manager include project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring-control and project closure. I have also learned that risk management is another leading concern that must be considered before launching any project to the clients. Even before developing the project the possible risk that may interrupt the success of the project should be highlighted by the project manager. After identifying the possible risks those needs to be analyzed, categorized and accordingly mitigation approaches are also required to be implemented by the project manager. I have learnt the project execution level errors can be little much minimized of the project manager have implemented the approach of open communication among their project team members. Open communication will provide them a platform where the project manager will feel free to share their point of views with the rest of the project team members. Lack of team coordination the project failed to meet its objectives and ths is an example of ugly project.
Lesson learnt for project management practice
Conclusion
From the overall discussion it can be concluded that numerous studies are these which focuses on calculating the organizational values of project management and these are also different however calculating the values if each project management perspectives are not easy to accomplish in a small time. After evaluating and analyzing these cases I have learned defined that the mobile app development project Montech Private Limited is a “Good” but the website upgradation project of ABC consultancy and a Cloud based information system development project of Globeforce solution are respectively a “Bad” and a “Ugly” one. The details of this paper successfully examined different alternative project management approaches in terms if risk management, communication management, procurement management and stakeholder management.
I have learnt that the mobile application development project of Montech private Limited is “Good” because the startup company has assigned all technically experienced employees to this project. On the other hand ABC consultancy’s website upgradation project is “Bad” due to lack cohesive quality assurance. I think that the Information System development project of GlobeForce solution is an ugly one because it has not even met a single requirement of the project. Each project has some bugs therefore it is better to first find out the issues instead of who will be users. In order to perform proper Quality assurance e project heads should set aside a 20% to 25% of development timing. I have realized that the project executives should ensure that an accurate and comprehensive quality plan is available for each projects otherwise a project will surely face serious implementation operational and functional challenges. I can say that the project manager needs to be capable of roll back all needful functionalities. Usage of proper version control system can drive any project towards success.
