ESSAY ON
VERY SAME SEX MARITAL RELATIONSHIPS
If the individuals from the gay and lesbian neighborhood are crazy sufficient to wish to tie the knot, they have as much right to do it as anyone else. Lots of same-sex couples are, indeed, crazy adequate to prefer marital relationship. Exact same Sex Marital relationship likewise called gay marriage or equivalent marital relationship it is marital relationship in between two persons of the exact same biological sex or gender identity. In the 20th and 21st centuries various types of same-sex unions have actually become legalized.
Same-sex marital relationship is currently legal in eight European nations: Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden; Luxembourg, Finland, France and the United Kingdom are currently in the process of legalization. Political leaders in the United Kingdom have revealed their intent to promote legislation to allow same-sex marriage. Other kinds of recognition for same-sex unions are since 2012 legal in the following European countries: Andorra, Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Island of Man, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Switzerland and the UK Gay marriage is one of the most controversial concerns in the contemporary world.
For the past thousand years, marital relationship has actually been acknowledged as the social union in between a man and a female. In a lot of cultures around the world, homosexuality was viewed with contempt, and marital relationships in between same-sex couples were prohibited.
However, homosexual relationships are slowly gaining acceptance, as homosexuals have become vocal in fighting their right to marry in the early 90s.
With an increased in tolerance for homosexuality in the society, the controversy over the legalization of gay marriage has been disputed among people in many nations. While the majority of the population believes that the legalization of gay marriage will have negative impact on the society, gay activists claim that it is against basic civil rights to prohibit them from marrying. Rod Dreher, American writer and editor, recently set the marriage debate in its broadest possible moral context: “Gay marriage signifies the final triumph of the Sexual Revolution and the dethroning of Christianity because it denies the core concept of Christian anthropology.” “Very near the center” of that Christian culture, he says, citing sociologist Philip Rieff, was its “rejection of sexual individualism,” a rejection that allowed Christianity to displace the “sexual autonomy and sensuality of pagan culture” and substitute its own morality as the operational value system of the West.
The 1st amendment of the Constitution states that a person’s religious beliefs or a lack of thereof must be protected. Legislatures also cannot discriminate against marriages of the minority party which, homosexual people fall into that category. There is also an amendment stating there is separation of church and state, so you cannot declare that a marriage is a gift from God. Others might ask why gay marriage should be legalized, but my question is this: why should other people be able to choose who marries who? If a man and a woman get married, no one seems to care. They are two people who feel affection for one another and those two people want to start a family. If we change the scenario a little bit and a man and a man, or a woman and a woman, try to get married it causes uproar. They are not allowed to be married or raise a family together.
In a marriage there is one thing that truly matters: love. Yes, other things are important too, but not one couple would make it to even asking someone to marry them if there was not some love. Las Vegas, Nevada is also known for being the place where many weddings occur which are annulled within one week. These marriages are not based off love, but simply a drunken night in Vegas. High divorce rates weaken what a marriage is defined as. Why are we not able to rewrite what a marriage stands for and make it include a homosexual marriage? The definition of love, according to dictionary.com is as follows: “Very strong affection: an intense feeling of tender affection and compassion.” If gay people feel this way then why shouldn’t they be able to be married? If they are happy with each other, said persons should be able to marry. For a long time, people have been considered homosexuality as a form of “deviant sexual behaviour”. However, evidence has shown that homosexual relationships have already been existed for more than 600 years. Secondly, many people have misunderstood that sexual orientation is a choice, and that a homosexual can be reformed to be a heterosexual anytime they want.
However, thousands of researches have been done over half a century to prove that homosexuality has a biological causation. Scientists have claimed that the sexual orientation of a person is unalterable, and it is congenital. That means if a person is born to be gay, they cannot do anything about it, and it is often hard to change their sexual orientation. Therefore it is not their choice to be homosexual, and it is not fair to treat them differently from others Even though gay marriage should be legalized, some people have different beliefs. In most religions including, Christianity, Islam, and Orthodox Judaism same sex preferences are a sin. People believe in procreation to repopulate the world, but are against gay marriage and homosexuals adopting children because they cannot procreate on their own.
If this is a stand point on making or breaking gay marriage then only people who are fertile and want to procreate should be able to get married according to this bias. America has never really given gay marriage a chance, but they believe gay marriage will weaken its institution by leading to high divorce rates. Many people believe that the same sex marriage should not be legalized because it goes against the moral and the definition of marriage. According to MarketWatch magazine (2008), a lot of people believe that same sex marriages destroy family values and the sanctity of tradition. Moreover, the same sex marriage goes against many religious beliefs such as Catholicism and Islam. However, civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions. Joe Solmoneses, the president of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, claims that marriage is not only a significant religious meaning but it is also a legal contract. Many couples would not require any religious leaders to perform their marriages. So the frames of the religious and law were separated.
While a lot of people strongly believe that children need a mother and a father. According to the National Institutes of Health (2009), girls who are raised apart from their father are reportedly at higher risk for early sexual activities. Same sex households are not appropriate for raising children. On the other hand, Dr. Peggy Drexler, author of ‘Our Father, Ourselves, Daughters and the Changing American Family’, claims that from her studies children raising in the same sex households felt more open-minded and empathetic than other children. According to the research, the quality of a family’s relationship is more important than the particular structure of families. Moreover, research studies from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation also shows that children raised by gay parents do just as well as children raised by straight couples.
Another reason why same sex marriages should be legalized is financial benefits, Even though some people fell uncomfortable to have their tax used to support something wrong, they think legalizing gay marriage might cost too much tax money. However, same sex couples also pay tax as everybody, so they have the right to receive the same benefit as others. Moreover, the same sex marriage will gain a lot of financial benefits through marriage licenses, higher income taxes and decrease in cost for state benefit programs. Three reasons why other person wants to legal the same sex marriage: First is, they have said all have a sin nature, with weaknesses to sin in particular ways and some people express their sin nature is one way, other people express theirs in other ways. Homosexuality is just one way in a fair and balanced way. Secondly, Marriage is a basic human right and an individual personal choice and the State should not interfere with same-gender couples who choose to marry. Thirdly, ending discrimination enhances the human spirit and makes all our lives better. The average wedding costs around $28,000. There are caterers, musicians, DJs, wedding planners, florists, and a whole list of other roles that need to fulfilled in order for a wedding to run smoothly.
This, multiplied by the 570,000 same sex couples in America equals an 11.4 billion windfall for the wedding industry. This would help alleviate the financial burden. “Gary Gates, a demographer at the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law who researches sexual orientation law and public policy, says the state itself would see a “noticeable economic benefit” from legalized same-sex marriage”. A lot of this money would be funnelled towards the working class of America. These are the people who need the money the most. They are the people who have been hit hardest by the recession. Allowing same sex marriages will provide the working class Americans with a source of income and help the economy rebound.
The opponents of same sex marriage have stated that, by allowing same sex couples to join in matrimony, the definition of marriage is weakened and the value of marriage as a whole begins to decay. Denying all people equal rights is bigotry. To imply that two married people in love and living peacefully would have any effect on the marriages of others is illogical. “First of all, I don’t think the American public is that indiscriminating. Second of all, there is no logical connection between gay marriage and all of these other things. This is similar to suggesting that heterosexual marriages of different ethnic background living near other heterosexual couples breaks down those nearby marriages. There is no difference between suggesting either of these intolerant trains of thought. There is nothing more to these comments other than prejudice. A happily married same sex couple would not have a negative impact on a neighbourhood or society. Same sex partners wouldn’t live their lives any differently than heterosexual partners. The creation of new families is only a positive influence on society.
If same sex couples are given the right to marry, they should be able to adopt children together and raise families. Some argue that raising children in a marriage with a mother and mother or father and father breaks down family values. It has also been suggested that raising a child in a same sex marriage makes that child gay. Neither of these arguments is valid. Many gay couples have already adopted and raised children, and these children have turned out as perfectly healthy, normal, heterosexual children.
Having children being taken out of foster care and being raised by a pair of loving, supportive parents could never be detrimental for society. The most important part of raising children to become happy and productive members of society is to provide a loving environment where they feel safe. Having two loving parents is more important than the gender of those parents.
It is not ethically correct to tell two people who want to spend their lives together that they can’t be married. Many people would disagree with this statement. Many people who are against same sex marriage would also source the Bible, which says marriage is between a man and a woman. They argue that gay people cannot be married because God would not allow it. The Bible also says, however, that the sacred union of marriage should not be severed by divorce. Following the same the line of reasoning that same sex marriage should be illegal because it is not religiously correct would also lead one to believe that heterosexual divorce should be illegal.
“Jesus himself had nothing to say about homosexuality, but he’s very clear on divorce. You can’t do it. And what I don’t understand is why gay people are the only people in America who have to follow biblical law” (Pew Forum “An Overview…”). To pick and choose which laws of the Bible should be enforced and which shouldn’t defeats the purpose of referencing the Holy Book.
Unless heterosexuals are willing to give up the right to divorce, same sex marriage should be legal. Furthermore, religion should have no effect upon government affairs. This nation calls for a separation of church and state, and to allow religion to be a deciding factor in a federal law is not only unethical but unconstitutional. There are three reasons why they have wanted Same Sex Marriage will be legal in the Philippines. First, all have sinned so it is their way to commit it; Secondly, Marriage is a civil liberty; thirdly, to end distinction and to have freedom. It should not be legal because of three reasons; first, we should follow God because He is our Creator; secondly, choosing your partner in life should consider God’s will; thirdly, you can have freedom but you should understand that it has limitations, discipline and responsibilities. In addition, there are other reasons why it should not be allowed: it is a violation to our traditions; partners are not able to have a child except if they will adopt a child and lastly it is debauched so it should be prohibited in the Law.
Therefore, the same financial benefits that apply to man-woman marriages apply to same-sex marriages. The Christian Science Monitor, support that gay marriage would improve the federal budget’s bottom line. Even today, after years of being proven wrong by minorities who have been discriminated against, gay and lesbian people are not allowed to get married. Out of fifty states, only five allow gay marriage plus Washington D.C. California was about to be the sixth state to legalize gay marriage when in the 2008 election, Proposition 8 stating, “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California,” passed in a close vote, 52.24% for Proposition 8 and 47.76% against it. The main argument people who were for Proposition 8 used was that allowing gay and lesbian people to marry would undermine the value of marriage. It would not. A marriage is a unity. A marriage is a pledge to love and cherish a single person forever, or until you sign the divorce papers. Perhaps a marriage has traditionally been between a man and a woman, but forgotten tradition.
As a world, we are moving forward. Time is moving forward. We need to let go of our past views of what love or marriage or normal was and embrace the new, or what we were too ignorant to realize was normal all along. A marriage between two people of the same gender is just as real and love based as a marriage between two people who have the ability to make a baby together. Allowing gay and lesbian people to marry would not destroy what a marriage fundamentally is: a unity based on solid love. Even though to most people gay marriage should be illegal and should stay in its current state, I believe we need to change the world for future generations. We feared that different religions were going to clash, but now all of the religions coexist.
White people had Black and Hispanic slaves, but we overcame the odds and now White men, Black men, and Hispanic men can be equals. If it is possible to overcome such fierce obstacles then we can overcome the boundary obstructing gay marriages and straight marriages alike. Gay marriage should be legalized for these reasons. Evolution will always continue and at any given point in time, something will occur that we will not like in this world, but we can overcome this. Gay marriage is a controversial issue that people have been fighting for years and it has finally come to the surface. We should take charge of it. And besides, who would be affected if homosexual marriage was legalized? No one!
