Discussion
Event management and planning help foster the tourism industry to contribute to the country’s GDP in a better way (Viol et al., 2018). It is further effective to enrich the scenario of the iconic events that attract the consumers for the tourism industry. Iconic events can attract a huge crowd to a certain location that is further needed to be managed to avoid risks and threats associated with the scenario. The present study has aimed to describe the scenario related to the Singapore International Water Week to attract global tourists toward visiting Singapore during that time. The study has further presented an event scenario looking at the International Water Week from the past years. The theme of the event is discussed in a clear manner. Apart from that, the logistics and execution of the event have been elaborated on by the present study. The outcomes of planning and managing the events have been presented in the present regard. The risks while planning the event have been identified and managed to develop the scenario and attract better consumer satisfaction. Through the risk assessment, the study will identify the area of development to attract better event management in the present scenario. Further, the study has recommended several points to facilitate the event management for conducting International Water Week in Singapore by MICE.
Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2022 is occurring from 17 April to 21 April in the present year. The event will attract different stakeholders from the international water industry to offer various attractions. It will further attract the best water practices involving technological advancements to attract consumers to engage in business opportunities. 80% of the international bookings have been completed for the International Winter Week 2022 (Siww.com., 2022). Innovative technologies have been involved in the present scenario to resolve the water challenges involved with the scenario. Sustainable water supply has been ensured by the company to attract a better consumer base by involving a sustainable approach in the business operation. The event is further attracting sponsorship from Jacobs, Keppel, Arcadis, Dupont, Toray, Xylem and so on. The Singapore government is also facilitating the event with better advantages to attract global consumers. In 2018, this event attracted 24000 participants and awards of 23 billion dollars. SIWW is considered the premier platform for co-creating and sharing innovative water solutions. In 2019, this event was performed with the partnership of Ecosperity Week.
Event Overview
The emerging themes for conducting the Singapore International Water Week are related to Digital water, climate resilience and resource recovery. As opined by Tortajada and Nambiar (2019), the theme of cleanliness is involved with the scenario to attract pure and unpolluted rainwater. Recycling of water while supplying the water has been ensured by the event. Reuse of water advanced purified water has been focused on by the event management while talking about the Singapore International Water Week. The theme of cost-effectiveness is further involved with the present scenario due to the high amount of water purification and reuse in the present regard. As described by Setty et al. (2019), water usage and associated health have been considered as a significant theme in the present scenario to attract competitive advantages. While considering the Singapore International Water Week international relations, Transboundary challenges and demographic trends are being followed while talking about the trends. Effective sustainable wastewater management has been entitled as a theme for the SIWW (Kastali et al., 2021). Cities of the future have been kept as a theme of the present event in Singapore. Water quality, health, circularity have been engaged as the themes in the present regard. Further, delivering water from sources to tap has been selected as a significant theme for the selected event.
The logistics for the present event involve the tourism industry as a huge international crowd is arriving during this period if the event is occurring on an offline mode. The logistics further involves the accurate planning for the event, controlling and managing the operations while introducing the tourist attractions. Further, the event is looking after implementing sustainable logistics for performing the Singapore International Water Week. As described by Grant, Wong and Trautrims (2017), sustainable logistics operations are performed through optimizing the environmental footprints while planning for an event. Green logistics is further attracted by MICE to attract better advantages through the present event. A sustainable approach in terms of warehousing, recycling of water, risk assessment is further related to the green logistics while planning for the Singapore International Water Week. The event is getting planned in Singapore from 17th to 21st April 2022. The venue has been selected to attract tourism advantages by planning the event. The venue has been further selected to attract technological benefits from the country. As explained by Sender, Klink and Flügge (2020), assessing the investments reorganization of event structure are needed to be performed to attract better effectiveness while planning for an event.
Theme
To execute the plans for planning the present event, the management needs to focus on clearing the goals and objectives for the event. In the present regard, the goal of the event management is to attract sustainable water usage in the world by celebrating international water day. The budget for each segment is needed to be prepared to attract better results in event management (Ivanov and Dolgui, 2019). Estimation of the cost for event management will be based on initial research on the water event that has been performed in past years. Industry analysis and proper planning are needed to execute the plan by forming a proper budget. Project costs further need to be focused on while preparing for the budget. The next program flow to execute the event is to assign the roles of the human resources engaged with the scenario (Pesaresi and Stewart, 2018). At the same time, assigning the roles the human resources are needed to be empowered to attract better execution process. Event branding is further essential in executing the event plan to attract maximum benefits from the present regard. Further, the plans are needed to be evaluated to analyze the risk factors involved with the scenario. In the end, the execution is needed to be performed after optimizing the threats involved with the scenario (Becue et al., 2020).
MICE has executed the event plan by the above steps and further attracted several profits by the international water week in 2021. The event has attracted 100 or more industry sessions, 120 international exhibitors and 350 technical papers to attract better solutions for water issues at the international level (Siww.com.sg, 2022). In 2018, the same event attracted 24000 or more international people on the event. Apart from that, deals worth 23 billion dollars have been attracted by the event. This scenario further encouraged the businesses in an international aspect to attract better advantages by the water event. The event further attracted several solutions to recycle and reuse the water resources in the present scenario to attract better effectiveness while protecting the environment in terms of saving water resources at an international level. Further, the event has generated profits for the tourism industry present in Singapore due to managing the huge international crowd during a certain time period. Apart from that, awareness among the international people was also created due to the event management. Technological innovations are encouraged during the event in terms of effective outcomes by enriching the technological papers from different countries (Biswas and Tortajada, 2021). A share of technology and knowledge took place due to the present scenario. The worldwide countries were able to implement change management due to the present event and its successful outcomes to benefit the water resources and usage in the present regard.
Logistics
According to Hopkin (2018), risk managing initiatives are essential to identify the threats involved with an event. In the present regard, event management needs to identify and optimize the risks involved with the present scenario. The present study will focus on the environmental risks involved with the present scenario to attract better effectiveness of the event. Due to the covid scenario, the event management is aiming at hosting the entire event online. This can further attract several issues related to the network challenges, ticket generations and so on. Digital traffic can be identified as a major risk as the event is attracting huge crowds from different locations around the globe (Peri?, 2018). The event is needed to optimize the present risks by involving skilled and experienced human resources to modify the technologies involved with the present scenario. The leadership style engaging in planning and managing can occur as an issue in the present regard. Effective leaders are needed to be attracted to engage better profits through the present event.
