As a development to be accomplished, sustainable development has been defined. It has the following criteria’s which harmonize three core elements. There are,
- Economic growth
- Social inclusion
- Environmental protection
These three major elements are interconnected, and also there are crucial for the well-being of individuals and societies. In 2015, the agenda of the 2030 year for sustainable development goals were adopted by many countries. Education is the ultimate ownership of every human being, and it is also the most powerful tool we have for sustainable development. Currently, over 265 million children are out of schools and 22% of them are of primary school age.
Because of progress has also faced tough challenges in developing regions due to high levels of poverty, armed conflicts, and other emergencies. So, even children who attend to schools do not have basic reading skills and mathematics skills. Great strides have been made to increase access to education at all levels and in particular to increase the school enrollment rate for girls, over the past decade. (United Nations website, n.d.)
According to that process, the basic literacy skills have improved widely, and also succeeding universal educational goals requires bold efforts to make even greater improvements.
The reasons which are of quality education defect,
- The weakness of adequately trained teachers.
- Poor conditions of schools.

In Sri Lankan society has been increased their number of educated youths as a developing society, in this way all other developing societies have been increased the number of educated youths, the global rate of the qualified labor force will have consequently increased by the UN. This factor will in turn abate the number of foreign workers in these developing countries draws abundant local and foreign investments as investors will have the evocative of security wanted as far as availability of qualified employees is concerned. As a final result of this is stretch the proportion of employment the society’s to alleviation in poverty, development in returns for companies and businesses as qualified employees then as a result of it will certainly increment productivity, and as a consequence, stretch in the income of the government. Who or what is affected by this issue?
Children in poorer households are four times more likely to stay away from school than children in the richest families. Rural and urban disparities have greatly affected this situation. Similarly, school children who are in primary school age live in conflict-affected areas. Similarly, gender equality, relevant school infrastructure, equipment, educational elements, and resources, and also lack of facilities and grants to award scholarships is mainly due to the problem. What can be done to reach this SDG?
- A system of education that is guaranteed to be equal to all, through establishing a minimum of 12 years of compulsive education is with relevant learning outcomes. - Encouraging well-trained educators to provide early childhood development and care by providing at least one year of free and quality pre-primary education. (campaign for the education web site, n.d.)
- The learning opportunities should be enhanced and characterized by the use of higher education and training methods, where problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork creativity, and conflict resolution skills should be given priority. - All persons should have access to reasonable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. It should not be based on issues such as gender, age, race, ethnicity, language, religion, etc. This is an ongoing situation in Sri Lanka and all girls and boys in Sri Lankan society have the opportunity to enjoy higher education as well as to enjoy the same benefits. How is the SDG connected to the other 16 SDGs?
Education is ultimate ownership and it is also the most powerful tool to have sustainable development. The quality of education is linked to other sustainable development goals as follows;
Poverty cannot be eradicated without education, children in low-income countries have not basic reading skills, and 171 million people can escape poverty by providing quality education. (Their world web site, n.d.)
Education is also important to nourish the children by increasing their nutrition. All mothers in low-income countries should have at least a secondary education. That could save 12 million children from malnutrition. (Their world web site, n.d.)
If there is an illness, everyone should be aware of the circumstances that led up to that illness. An uneducated family or society cannot attain that understanding. Therefore, all women should have at least a secondary education, which can reduce their infant mortality rate by 49%. (Their world web site, n.d.)
Being educated also helps to reduce the number of maternal deaths in infant births. All women are comprehension by providing primary education. Maternal deaths can be reduced by 66%. (Their world web site, n.d.)
Education is also important for women and girls to stand up for their rights. With the right education, they can raise their voice for their rights. Therefore they can reduce the early fewer marriages by 64% and also early fewer pregnancies by 59%. (Their world web site, n.d.)
Without education, developed economic growth cannot be achieved. One year of schooling is associated with a 10% increase in wage earnings.

The social and environmental factors and the potential for trade in each developing country vary greatly.
