The Importance of Heritage Tourism in Australia
1st Discussion paper
The sudden emergence of the supply of the different tourism products and services by the private providers through the different latest social media or digitalized platforms has been welcomed by all the visitors as well as the service providers. The main problem however lies with the traditional suppliers and the traditional destinations which is gradually becoming obsolete under the new set up. The following discussion paper has been undertaken by the management of UNWTO to gain a clear and transparent understanding of the following phenomenon by implementing a context of development and change. The paper has used PEST Analysis and other forms of internal and external analysis to get a clear understanding of the following factors and to also ensure the fulfillment of all the different objectives that the report aims to gain.
2nd Discussion Paper
National Heritage Tourism Summit (Discussion Paper)
The second discussion paper has been selected as the National Heritage Tourism summit discussion paper because of the importance that heritage tourism is slowly gaining in the global tourism activities. Global heritage Tourism is gradually becoming one of the largest and fastest growing tourism sectors and official estimates predicts that it will occupy almost 50% or more than that in the coming years. The paper which has been created by the National Trusts of Australia has highlighted the potential that lies within the promotion of the untapped heritage tourism in the island continent of Australia. According to them heritage tourism can be one of the best forms of modern tourism attraction in the country and can contribute to a large portion of Australian economy. The social and economic benefits of the organization, the potential for the increase in the number of tourists and also the different opportunities for the Australian National tourism body has been discussed in this paper.
Critical Review
The development of ICT is believed to have played the game changer in the modern day as because it has helped in the spread of tourism. The use of digital platforms has enabled the spread of tourism to distant places and has also helped the authorities to start new chapters and new ways and processes that will be helpful to maintain tourism. According to, Moyle et al., (2014) the use of digital platforms like phones, tablets, GPS, internet and many more as such has been helpful to connect the globe and implement new policies of tourism and planning. The tourism and digital platform economy is the new policies and procedures that is slowly outperforming the traditional ways of enhancing tourism in the area. The following paper thus fulfills the different types of the needs and wants that are included in the tourism planning and policies. According to, Dredge and Jamal (2015 the following policies are strongly supported by the users and the operators because of its easy to use methods and mutual benefits to each and every people and stakeholders involved in the following policy.
The second discussion paper on the other hand sets the stage for the introduction of Heritage tourism as the most modern form of tourism. Wray (2015) says that the tourism industry has become one of the largest and the fastest growing sectors in the modern economy of Australia. However the paper necessities the importance of the growth of heritage culture to enhance the tourism market of the country. The promotion of Heritage Tourism is relevant because of the growing international market. On the other hand ignoring the rich cultural time period and resources of Australia can have a negative impact on the success of the tourism in this part of the world. According to, Young (2016) tourism needs to be a community mobilization strategy so that each and every person can participate in the following sector and help in the proper maintenance of the rich cultural heritage of the country.
The Role of ICT in Modern Tourism Planning
Structure of First Discussion Paper
The first discussion paper which has been compiled by the members of UNWTO has been done in a proper and effective manner. The maintenance of the following structure has helped to construct the report in an organized manner, with each and every points being mentioned accordingly. However there could have been only one simple change which could have made the report more detailed and constructive in nature. The opportunities and challenges could have been provided with a similar type of recommendation. Apart from this the report could also have taken the viewpoint or have conducted a survey of some of the people which could have made the report more compact in nature.
Quality of First Discussion Paper
The UNWTO discussion paper is rich in quality as it discusses the different types of the policies related to the new methods that are slowly being adopted by the private players to digitalize tourism and enhance new tourism opportunities for the uncappe4d sectors in tourism. The inclusion of the opportunities, challenges, digital platforms and the users have provided much more edge to the paper and enhanced its quality.
Effectiveness of First Discussion Paper
The contents of the first discussion paper is highly effective in nature as because it provides the different elements related to the increase in the use of digital platforms and the proper utilization of these platforms to increase the scope and opportunities for the tourism of a particular area. The discussion of the following element provides the best analysis for the recent trends of tourism. Apart from that the online tourism is also stated to play a key role in the future tourism industry and other areas of hospitality sector. The paper thus can be said to be the most effective in terms of the latest trends that are being applied in the fields of tourism.
Structure of Second Discussion Paper
The structure of the second paper is mainly based on the different elements of Heritage tourism. This includes the likes of the definition, understanding the term Heritage Tourism, Governance, Building a Structure, setting common goals and many more such similar kind of elements. The paper follows an organized and proper structure that helps the proper formulation of the report. This includes the inclusion of different critical information, inclusion of proper statistics, inclusion of the different nature based activities, growth opportunities and many more as such. The following structure thus helps in the creation of a proper vision and plan to develop the heritage tourism of Australia.
Quality of Second Discussion Paper
The quality of the second paper can be said to be of the highest quality as it has been prepared after a detailed and thorough analysis of the different elements related to the growth and the spread of the following tourism in Australia. The heritage visitor is one of the most innovative parts that have been included in this paper which provides a hypothetical person and projects him as an heritage tourist visiting Australia. The discussion of the target markets, the statistical analysis of the visitor market information carries a high degree of quality. The paper like its counterpart in this assignment has also provided the opportunities and challenges faced by the Heritage tourism and their remedies. The providence of such elements again proves to be a quality addition to the paper.
Effectiveness of Second Discussion Paper
The promotion of Heritage Tourism in Australia is certainly one of the most effective discussions in the modern days. The modern tourism industry demands innovation and new kind of strategies that will be helpful for the Australian Tourism Authority to enhance and boost the heritage tourism in Australia. The following paper is thus more than effective as because it discusses all the elements related to heritage tourism in Australia and also the challenges, ways and opportunities of the following Tourism to be faced by the industry. The discussion paper thus carries immense importance because of its contents which are related directly to the trends in modern tourism.
Reflection
Both the papers have great importance in each regard. As both the papers are discussion papers the papers may not be given that much importance. However, the fact that it has been prepared by UNWTO and the National Trust of Australia makes their case strong. After reading both the papers thoroughly I have gained a lot of knowledge regarding the subject discussed separately in both the papers. This includes the likes of the transformation of traditional tourism to modern forms of tourism like digital based tourism and on the other hand the discussion of Heritage tourism. Both of the following subjects are of great importance as both of the two terms are currently trending in the tourism market. Both the two elements of modern tourism is going to be the future of tourism. Digital Tourism with mobiles, keynotes, I pads and many more such devices will be the future of tourism and people will experience a time where services will be booked and available in one go. On the other hand the promotion of historical tourism based on heritage visits can be one of the most potent sources of modern tourism. Heritage tourism according to me has all the potentiality to be the new age tourism of the globe.
