As far as current education systems are taken in to consideration, it can be seen that there is a shift towards the use of latest technology in teaching and learning rather than giving more importance to the traditional teaching and learning methods (Cainand and Gradisar, 2010) .As almost all human activities are engaged with technology it is understandable to introduce the technology to education as the future will be highly reliable on technology. Hence, today’s schools are in the process of integrating technology in to teaching and learning process.
As a result of that most of the schools, including the schools in Maldives open to use the electronic devices such as tablets, iPads etc (Rockinson et al,2013). Experts view it as opening the whole new world, personalized learning and collaborative use of technology that enhances the learning ability of students. However, as far as students are concerned, it was identified that there have been some challenges faced by the student’s day in day out while using the electronic devices as substitutes to the exercise books.
This study is carried out with the view of understanding whether students face any challenges while using these electronic devices for their studies.
Methodology
As mentioned above main objective of this study is to understand whether there are any challenges for students as a result of using the electronic devices in their learning process. Therefore, a survey has been carried out to get the real life data of the students. Analysis will be done based on the collected data.
Initially, a questionnaire has been prepared under two (02) sections. Section A consists of demographical questions and section B consists with the questions that are being related to the topic. Furthermore, questionnaire has been distributed among 20 students. The sample of 20 students were picked up using non-probability method which means all the selected students were picked up in a highly random manner. Collected data has been used for the analysis.
Data Analysis and scope
Questionnaire has been distributed among a sample of 20 students. The collected data with regards to the fact “using technology in schools” will be discussed below.
As far as selected schools are concerned, survey was carried out in 10 schools in Male’ and only 02 students were selected from each school. They include Ahmadhiyyaa International School, Kalaafaanu School, Ghiyasuddin International School, Dharumavantha School, Majeediyya School, Hiriya School, Aminiya School, Jamaluddin School, Iskandharu School and Imaaduddin School.
