The Berlin Wall was originally constructed by the German Democratic Republic. In 1961, it completely separated cut off West Berlin, creating East Germany and West Germany. The wall was created to protect the population against fascists. They also wanted to prevent the uprising of a Socialist State. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls. This prevented citizens from crossing the border. Many people from East Berlin went to the border crossings. The people demanded to open the border and late that night, border was opened.
On August 2, 1990, the Iraqi Republican Guard invaded Kuwait and seized control of the country. The Iraqis had infantry, armor, and tank units that were far superior to Kuwait’s army.
The invasion immediately made the United States respond. 5 day later, U.S. forces began deployment. The UN agreed that the Iraq’s invasion and annexation was a violation. The UN told Iraq that they must withdrawal immediately. Later that month, President Bush signed a policy in response to the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait.
The main articles of the policy were to ensure immediate withdrawal of any Iraqi forces in Kuwait, and to also restore Kuwait’s government. The Israeli and Palestinian conflict is a dispute between Israelis and Palestinians who still disagree about their borders and control of Jerusalem. The issues that both sides are fighting about are their official borders, security, rights to have total control of Jerusalem, and Israeli settlements.
The conflict resulting in violence has made this conflict and international problem. Since they cannot make an agreement about those issues, they continue to fight.
The conflict has made it an international problem and many countries including the U.S. have taken sides, making this a global problem. The 9/11 attacks were multiple suicide attacks by Al-Qaeda terrorist group against the United States. Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four U.S. commercial passenger planes. They crashed two of them into the World Trade Center, which ended up causing the buildings to collapse. The Al-Qaeda terrorists crashed the third airplane into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field because the passengers voted to try and regain control of the plane.
This attack against the U.S. was not only devastating because so many lives were lost, but that they used our equipment to attack us. It was totally unexpected that someone could use an American made, mode of transportation, to attack us. Addicted to War says that we are too militarily active and that we should solve our problems through non-violent agreements. If we always resort to violence, and our weapons continue to be more and more powerful, eventually we will not be able to do anything without destroying the world. Eventually, most countries might have weapons that could destroy the world. If we do not progress in our weapons but instead in our foreign relations policies, we will be much better off.
