Negative impact on people’s sentiment
Discuss about the Association For Information Science And Technology.
Fake news reportings is a major issue, which acts as an interplay with the individual sentiments of the people. This interplay contradicts the true essence of the aspect of “managing people” within the organization. Uploading fake news in social networking sites has created confusions within the minds of the people (Allcott & Gentzkow, 2017). Along with this, fake news has destroyed the originality of the issues, which distorts the awareness of the people regarding the events taking place in their surroundings. Apart from this, the fake news has added to the security issues of the users. Out of confusion, the users commit silly mistakes, which is a severe loss. Mention can be made of the fake news aired by Fox News regarding firing of Megyn Kelly for backing Hillary.
Emergence of the fake news sites have added to the complexities of the people regarding distinguishing between the real and the fake news. Unusual links of the notifications submitted by the users destroy the reliance on the hoax detection systems (Lazer et al. 2018). Incapability of the users to spot fake news indicates dysfunctional role of the facebook in detecting hoax news. The challenge lies in the leakage of the fake information. Examples can be cited of the fake news uploaded on the facebook, which created mass panics at airports regarding the presence of gunmen.
One of the main reasons for faking the news can be to lure more customers. Here, the main aim is to assess the reaction of the audience towards the uploaded news. This assessment leads to the achievement of negative outcomes. This is because upon receiving the news, it is obvious that the people would be confused regarding sharing their views. On the other hand, if the news is about something, which they like, they would be eagerly waiting for sharing it with their friends and relatives (Sunstein, 2018). However, in most of the cases, it is seen that the people share all of the posts, which they see on their timelines. This sharing reduces the feeling that they would suffer the consequences alone. This sharing adds value to the preconceived notions regarding the events happening in the surroundings.
Some of the people have the habit of spreading rumours. If they come across any news, they immediately share it on the social networking sites. This is without the consideration that the news might not be true. Herein lays the psychological aspect of the human mind. Under the urge of letting the people know about some new fact, they lack the understanding to evaluate its reliability and validity (McGrew et al., 2017). This is because of the excitement, which obliterates the basic demarcation between the right and the wrong actions.
Contribution to security issues
Sometimes calculations are done for forging fake news in order to create conflicts between the likeminded people. Fake news enhances the diversity between people, as they indulge in partnership with different people for excavating the reality behind the news. Most of the people refrain from indulging into such conflicts. This is because they fear from the taunts and mocking for not believing the news. In this context, psychology plays an important role in terms of assessing the mindset of the people towards the social media events (Huff, 2018). In this type of mentality, the traits of the personnel like “greatness”, tactfulness” is contradicted. In this contradiction, the aspect of social welfare is obliterated in terms of grabbing the hot seat. Based on these perspective, the leadership aspect of the media personnel is nullified.
Financial growth is the aim of the media personnel behind faking the news on the social networking sites. People sharing the news add to the customer for the media. Replacement of newspapers by the social networking sites has itself increased the sales revenue of the Facebook. Sometime, faking the news is intentional in terms of increasing the stock of customers. In case of the political parameter, circulation of fake news has resulted in the achievement of growth and development. Outrage of the politicians has created the environment in which they can flourish. This creation is the discredit of the personnel in terms of executing the allocated duties and responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner. This is a wrong way in terms of ensuring the wellbeing of the people (Carlson, 2018).
Faking the news can be considered as the mentality to distort its originality. This type of mentality is unusual in terms of gaining the attention of the customers. This approach contradicts the true essence of the term “management”. Most importantly, approach towards faking the news adds a negative shade to the role of the media personnel regarding passing on the correct information to the public. Parodying the situation and presenting it to the people created misunderstandings among the people. The personnel, on the other hand, availed benefits through the means of developing conflicts between the people. The more people indulged in debates, the more benefitted were the personnel towards increasing the revenue (Conroy, Rubin & Chen, 2015).
The capability of the students to find out these issues reflects their matured thought process. Herein lays the appropriateness of the behavioural theory, which enhances their professionalism. Detailed analysis of the causes acts as a reasoned action in terms of reaching to the effective solutions for proposing recommendations. Rationality in the excavation of the issues is the reasoned action of the students in terms of gaining understanding about respecting the individual sentiments of others.
Destruction of awareness
Taking the help of the teachers and the team leaders enhances the stability in the relationship between the teachers and the students. Here, communication plays an important role in solving the issues, which the students faced while preparing the presentation on the issue of fake news in facebook.
Social networking sites broaden the scope and arena of the customer base. Uploading the recent news helps the personnel to increase thee trafficking of the audience towards the brand image. Typical example of social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram among others. Privacy needs to be maintained in terms of sharing the information with the people. For this, privacy cookies need to be adopted in terms of maintaining the security of the personal information of the people. This is mentioned in the official website for enhancing the awareness of the people regarding the ways and means of securing the data. One of the negative issues of the Facebook is the cyber crimes. Countering this, the issue prevails in the other social networking sites also. The issue of fake news has its predominance in Twitter as well as Instagram.
The users create accounts in these sites for making a widespread presence. Sharing the information enables them to have numerous followers, enhancing their public image. However, the users need to be rational in terms of adding friends and sharing information with the friends. Coming across fake news is an inevitable issue, however, its reliability needs to be assessed for gaining the approach of the customers. Herein lays the appropriateness of the hoax detection systems, which needs efficient and flexible technology. Regular inspection of the systems would help in averting the instances of cyber crimes. Lackadaisical attitude in this direction would compel the personnel to encounter switch over to Instagram and Twitter. This switchover would result in the loss of customers, spoiling the reputation of Facebook.
Safety checks have proved beneficial for the users in terms of assuring the wellbeing of their loved ones in the times of disasters. One of the striking results is the drastic reduction in the number of terrorist attacks. Allowance needs to be proper in this case, so that the users can get the news of the disasters and alert their loved ones by sharing the news on the Facebook. This feature overpowers Facebook as compared to Instagram and Twitter. Supervision is needed in terms of allowing the users to use the safety systems themselves. Absence of supervision might lead to harmful circumstances, resulting in the achievement of negative outcomes.
Reasons behind fake news
Providing the people with the choice can be one of the wise steps. This is in terms of gaining an insight into the contents, which they want to see in the social networking sites. This helps in determining the likes and dislikes of the customers. Intentional uploading of fake news in the news feed of the personnel would reflect unethical approach towards the wellbeing of the customers. Automatic verification of the news can prove fruitful in terms of transmitting authentic information to the audience. For this, flexible and efficient technology is needed, so that the news gets verified before reaching to the users.
Training needs to be provided to the staffs regarding these technical functions. Practical experimentation in this direction can be helpful in making the personnel aware of the harmful effects, which the transmission of fake news can create. This training is not applicable for the artificial intelligence systems. This is because it cannot conduct self-assessment of the questions regarding the source. Along with this, surveys and feedbacks can be effective towards finding the trustworthy news sources. The social media experts expose varied reactions towards the effectiveness of survey. The results of the surveys are not to be disclosed for maintaining the privacy of the users. Consciousness in this direction would reflect ethical approach.
Policies can be established for securing the news feed of the users. Typical examples can be the privacy cookies and policies. These need to be evaluated in terms of ensuring the wellbeing of the people. If the evaluation is done in the form of meetings, the personnel can gain an insight into the approaches of the people towards the levied news. Interactive nature of the meetings can enhance the decision-making skills, abilities and competencies of the personnel. Consideration of the reviews uploaded by the people can act assistance in terms of developing new ideas for mitigating the instance of fake news. Herein rationality would create positive image in the minds of the customers about Facebook and uploading news and pictures. Along with this, it would also help the personnel to achieve loyalty, trust and dependence from the customers.
Frequent discussions and open forums need to be organized for upgrading the communication skills of the students. Interactive nature of these sessions would clarify the doubts of the students regarding completion of the projects in an efficient and effective manner. Practical exams would enliven the perspectives of the students towards ethical data collection for the project.
