This also caused volcanoes all over the world to erupt, killing many people. In Dark Water Rising, Seth and his family got caught in a flash flood that killed thousands of people. The type of conflict is one of the many similarities in Dark Water Rising and Life as We Knew it.
Another similarity between Dark Water Rising and Life as We Knew it is that many people died in the natural disasters. In Life as We Knew it, Miranda’s mother’s friend, a doctor, dies of a strange deadly flu that killed almost all of the hospital force.
Then, Miranda’s best friend starved to death, believing that if she did not eat, then other people would live longer. In Dark Water Rising, one of Seth’s fellow construction workers and his girlfriend’s dad both died, having drowned. In Dark Water Rising, Seth desperately tries to reach his family and prays hoping that they are alive. Both characters struggle to keep their families alive.
