A conflict theory states that the powerful will eventually become corrupted and develop institutions to maintain the power that they have. It is said to be structured to benefit only a few of the people being the majority and factors such as one’s race, sex, gender, etc. are to be linked in social inequality, many see the majority and minority as being an example of the how it is unfair since most if not all of the members there are white male female and the minority groups would consist of Hispanic, African American, Asian, etc.
basically the rest of the groups. Many of those who have wealth and power will try with all their power and possible means to stay and keep it even if it comes to suppressing those who are poor and powerless. Social inequality is natural since there are people who want to be above everyone else and want to control those who are vulnerable and weak.
A functionalist theory believes that society is a system that is balanced as a whole. Each system that is in our society helps one another in a certain way and makes society stable, so if one part does not function then society can’t function without them. It also says how each individual part brings influence to and is influenced by other parts of the system to better improve society to move forward. It is necessary to have inequality because the distribution of the social positions and to motivate those in performing the duties necessary to ensure their positions have the knowledge/skill set.
The similarities of both these views is that they view social structures and agree that it is existing in a society.
The more persuasive theory that I believe is conflict theory, I agree with its belief that those who have power are going to let it go over their head and if not already corrupt become corrupted with the much power they have and desire to get all if not the most as possible. I as well believe since the beginning of time society was never meant to be equal to everybody, they only saw white males as human while women and other minority groups weren’t seen as citizen, then comes accepting everyone as equal yet even to this day not everyone is equal and given the same opportunities.
I see that there are still some very powerful people in the one percent that are still traditional and will do whatever it takes to keep it that way as long as possible, they have the resources, the money and the means to do such thing so why wouldn’t there be a society where not everyone is equal and able to accomplish more with there life. If the society was set up to be equal and fair towards everyone, I would believe there would be more educated people with maybe even just an associates and less high school and college drop out rates as well everyone given the resources they need to succeed in life to do great for the future. In doing that, nobody would be above or below anybody, everyone is equal and has the same means to get by.
