The Significance of Hunting and Gathering Practices among Traditional Aborigines
Traditional Aborigines is the only group that practices hunting and gathering in Australia. The practice involves use of both the past and the present hunting tools and techniques. Hunting is supposed to be done within the confines of law in which case men gather to display their talents. Hunting is an old ritual, which is being, governed by modern law. In some ways, it makes it possible for men with an opportunity to make claims concerning their position of authority in groups. The information is obtained during ceremonies where men share knowledge about animals and their secret names. This male ritual activity maintains the hunting economy of men. The men hold powerful ceremonies after hunting game to facilitate sharing. Sacred caves or tree storehouse are built to house local sacred items and the surrounding environment is forbidden area for those who do not hunt or belong to the group. Hunting and gatherings is forbidden in sacred places. It is also forbidden to hunt injured animals.

Basic tools such as scrapers and hammers that were carefully flaked, chipped or ground into shape were used.
