Causes and Effects of Muri (Overburden)
Question:
Discuss about the Educational Management Administration Leadership.
There are many concepts in the organization to evaluate the procedure and design strategies to build balance in the organization. The assignment will focus on Muri which means “overburdened”. The depth understanding about the subject will be described in this assignment. Leadership is vital for the organization as it helps to guide the followers for accomplishing the task within time frame. The vision and mission of the organization is shown by leaders to the employees of the organization. Leader guides them effectively so that they do not feel overburdened or pressurized due to work.
Muri is referred as unreasonable burden on people or machines. People get overburdened due to inefficiency of the tools and guidance which is the major cause of Muri within the organization. A single man or machine would be unable to accomplish the entire work. Overburden on single person or machine can bring the issues in the organization and end customer has to suffer from the late deliveries or defects. It is not necessary that every employee has the capability to accomplish the task efficiently; he or she may fail to accomplish the task on time. This incident may reduce the workplace safety and employee morale. These factors are either a decline in the quality of production or supplementary reduction in that working pace of employee. Muri can be addressed as the complicated nightmare but it is totally dependent on the conditions. It is necessary for the organization to identify the separate components of given task and to understand the requirements of the components. Muri is hard to handle but it can be resolved in the organization by breaking down and minimizing in to separate parts, it would be easier to spot potential bottlenecks and way to optimise the production flow. Moreover, this kind of analysis can facilitate in recognizing the issues with consistency, which is becoming the major reason of Muri in the process of production.

It has been analyzed that if one node of the chain attain elements in a non-standard form, the extra unnecessary efforts are increased. It is necessary to ensure that the step of process should be regular with general organizational standards. The same mentioned above rules are applicable for the components which ultimately make their way to external facilities as well. It has been evaluated that lack of communication between employee and employer can become the reason of Muri or Overburdened which increase the unnecessary pressure on the employees as well as processes (Kanbanize, 2018). It is done in the process of the organization due to lack of training, undefined or unclear ways of working, the interrupted tools and ill thought out of measure performance. There are number of examples of Muri such as working on that process where an employee is not trained, lack of efficient tools and equipment, unreliable process, fluctuating demand, poor communication routes, unreliable equipment and unspecific instructions. It can be stated that Muri covers the host of issues in not only manufacturing companies but also in service industry that would cause number of problems in the process (Pie?kowski, 2014). It is required for the company to concentrate on these issues and put efforts to improve the efficiency of the employees. It is necessary for the organization to handle Muri within a process that employees of the organization can work in an adequate and efficient manner (Chiarini, 2011).
The Role of Leadership in Eliminating Muri

Lean manufacturing is the well-efficient process of eliminating the waste of Muri in the organization (Panneman, 2017). There are various strategies and tools available such as just in time and other techniques that enable production smoothening and flow by reducing the cost of Muri. There are other lean tools such as TPM and 5S, which facilitate to eliminate other reasons of overburden. It is integral for the organization to have the leadership quality in the leader (Priest and Gassdd, 2017). Lean leader has certain traits such as journey embracement, relentless pursuit of perfection, champion of simplicity, fanatical customer focus, living the gemba style and respectful, authentic and upstanding. Lean is a journey and it is neither a quick fix nor a program of the month. Lean is considered as the crucial part of the overall strategy. The role of leaders is in eliminating the Muri from the process of the organization is major and they can diminish it by following the below points (Domingo, n.d.).
Training session is the major process for the organization as it provides the correct guidance to how to accomplish the task within time frame with clear understanding. Muri can be diminished within the process with the help of efficient training program to the employees of the company. It has been analyzed that the employee feel overburdened in the organization when he or she is unaware about the way of working (Fleck and Kraemer, 2014). Leaders of the organization should provide the training program to the new employees about the usage of machines or equipment in the organization. It has been analyzed that the leaders can being the cause of overburden their teams without even realizing it. Setting deadlines to accomplish the task may force different team members to rush the work (Keep, 2014).
Training is the good process to eliminate the Muri from the organization but along with that it is integral for the organization to provide the clear instructions to the employees. Muri can considerably reduce the productivity and the efficiency of the team. Unclear instruction is being the cause of too much pressure which communicates to extra working hours. It will lead the company’s productivity in to occupational burnouts. Overburdening has the bad effect on the moral of team and damage the health of the entire work process. For instance, there is a football team which has 3 football players with extra feature and if coach put pressure on 3 players in that case they will get injured and then the entire team will struggle. Clear instruction would be helpful for the company to balance the capacity of the entire team.
TPM is lean manufacturing tool that should be executed in the organization to reduce the Muri within the process. It is not possible to make changes in the plan due to unreliable machines. TPM program ensures that issues and disruptions linked with tools are reduced. 5S is effective tool which handles a broad range of overburden within any workplace. The main focus of 5S is to remove unreasonable movement and stress by making sure that everything is exactly where it should be most effective use. It ensures that layout should be cleared within an organization.
Lean Manufacturing Tools to Reduce Muri
Jidoka is a considered as the vital part of any lean execution. It permits to trust the result from machines and processes far more than otherwise could. It can be applied to the whole process and employees of the organization should be empowered to prevent the process when things are not correct. It is supported tool in which everyone should include in solving the issues.
Process should be reliable and it can be assured by the leader of the organization. Reliability is considered as an important aspect for the employee performance. Reliability of the process as well as the supervisors and managers can also influence employee performance. The leader of the organization can eliminate the Muri by maintaining the credibility with workforce that keeps self-interest at the top of its list of priorities (Lai and Cheung, 2015). It is vital for workers to recognize that managers and supervisor are trustworthy and reliable to do correct things for their employees.
At the time of missing proper tools and equipments in the company, the existence of Muri is obvious and inevitable. Leaders of the organization should analyze the working criteria of the employees according to the need of the company then they should inform to top management for extra tools and equipments so that other workers could not feel inequality at same work place. For instance, if organization provides computers to some of its employees but the rest work on 7 years old machines, it will be caused of overburden for second team because they will require extra time to accomplish their task using their old equipment. The role of leader in maintaining the tools and equipments in the organization is integral (Kerzner and Kerzner, 2017).
Communication is the main process in the organization because it is the way which provides the efficient information to other team members. Good communication is integral for the success of any team. Overburdening can be eliminated from the process of the organization by implementing the effective communication channel and practices (Priest and Gass, 2017). For instance, leader conducts a meeting with 4 of his team members and decides to make 10 innovative landing pages for website. Every team member starts to work on the project. However, it was a verbal agreement and the designer was not aware for the project up until the end of the day before the expected deadline. In that order, the designer will be overburdened and the feeling of Muri at that time will be raised due to miscommunication.
Conclusion
In the limelight of above discussion, it can be concluded that Muri is the major reason of low productivity of the employees. The assignment has been made on Muri and clear understanding has been shown in this assignment about the subject. There are number of issues in the organization due to Muri but it can be eliminated in effective manner with the support of leader. The issues can be lack of efficient tools and equipment, unreliable process, fluctuating demand, poor communication routes, unreliable equipments and unspecific instructions. Leadership is necessary for improving the process and eliminating the Muri from the organization. The improvement has been discussed in this assignment to remove the impact of Muri on the organization.
