High Risk Activities and Controls
A safe work method statement is a particular safety statement form which is created within the construction industry of Australia. This form of statement identifies all the high risk activities that are being carried out within the workplace. The controls and hazards related to each of the activities will be put in place in order to Evaluate mitigation plans to eliminate risks as much as possible. In case of high risk activities the same is referred to as high risk construction work.
The employees and workers need to have appropriate certifications which will prove that they are properly trained to work at heights. The employees will ensure that all the safety measures and regulations are followed by them before committing to working at heights. The safety measurements are the responsibility of the sole employees.
While working at heights it is the common requirement of the workers to expect that there are some fall protection measures, taken by the project manager or the employer. These falling may include falling down the ladder, falling off of a roof, falling on the floor through an unguarded hole. The specific measurements considered for fall protection are listed below.
- Forklift platforms
- Boatswain’s chairs
- Suspended equipment
- Cranes and hoists
- Swing Staging
- Elevated Work platforms
Apart from these, there are some other significant fall protection measures which can be taken according to the policies and regulations of Occupational health and safety law. The measures are,
- Fall containment system
- Handrails or guardrails
- Control zones and warning barriers
- Fall arrest system
Light Duty: For light duty, generally 25 pounds per square foot is the maximum lifting weight for frequent lifting.
Medium Duty: the limitation of weight in case of medium duty scaffold is up to 50 pounds per square foot,
Heavy Duty: The highest weight allowance is 75 pounds per square foot when applied uniformly.
In case of basic scaffolding, the maximum height is 4 meters when constructing a residential site. A person cannot and should not fall more than 4 meters. This outline provides a significant lesson for the learners with their preliminary skills and knowledge of erecting scaffolds safely.
- The work platform should be fitted in alignment to the guardrails.
- The tower should be firmly fitted on the ground level.
- During the use of the towers, the wheels should be locked.
- During the movement of the tower, avoidance of overhead is a must.
- The tower should not be overloaded at any cost.
- Trained workers should build and set the tower.
The maximum thicknesses of the scaffold planks as per AS1577 are stated below.
1.5 – 38mm
2.0 – 50mm
2.5 – 63mm
Further information and guidance about the usage of scaffolds are provided in AS/NZS 4576. There are specific regulations related to the thickness of the planks. The jurisdiction identifies the relevance of the local requirements.
Some risk control measures are identified in the below section related to internal scaffold falling.
- Full decks of planks can be positioned on each floor and lift.
- The scaffolds are appropriately checked to ensure there are no negative working capacity impacts on the supporting structures.
- Adaptation of sequential erection method to control external falls
- Advance guardrails can be implied during assembling of scaffolds.
- Accessibility of ladder internally will help to control alling risks.
The versatile option of mobile scaffold helps the workers in climbing and getting down in a risk free manner. The idea of mobile scaffolding is easier and simple to assemble and dismantle. The work environment will become more convenient and productive. This will improve the safety measurements for the workers who use scaffolding regularly. With the risk free process, the projects will be completed sooner than later.
The sequential selection method directly involved one bay at a time installation of guardrails and Standards in a sequential way. In this process the cardinals are installed where the standards are already set in the places. This particular method ensures that the scaffolders are not necessary to work more than one bay length with an exposed age of the entire scaffold platform. This particular process also includes installation of base plate solved boards and vertical and horizontal reinforcement within the ties. This adequate method helps to access the work platforms with the help of an appropriate ladder. The ladder makes sequential reduction methods more convenient for the workers to lead on. This hairs with the intas capital management system.
- Stacker
- Hand trolley
- Electric tow tractors
- Tow truck
- Hand pallet truck
Working at Heights and Safety Regulations
Tie bars are the Hopper brackets of 2 to 3 boards which help to prevent rotation of brackets. This particular tool helps to prevent planks and prevents from dislodging and falling.
Best lifted the first level of lasers and transoms which are just above the Jacks. Is a closed platform and it is constructed to increase the capability of functioning within the working platform. This particular tool or equipment is required for high risk construction works.
A Closed platform defines a particular platform which is constructed and is capable of working within the platform. This is temporarily closed in order to load or access any high risk based construction work.
The Hopper brackets are fixed equipment which are constructed and designed to be utilized for the scaffolding structures when the tube and fitting are required.
Toe board is a significantly tiny wall measuring between 4 and 12 inches. The toe board has a significant purpose of preventing objects from falling over people or rolling over on the floor. This helps in preventing different round materials to roll over and fall on the floor of the elevated construction site.
The working face defines a particular building or structure on which the election of scaffold has taken place. The entire purpose of the working face and scaffold erection is to enable the work to be carried out at any point of stage of the project.
Architect specifies the need of a person who is designing, planning and overseeing the construction of the buildings. Here the architecture is being practiced by the person to find connection within the designs and the space in the construction sites.
Beam in scaffolding and construction is a pillar which supports the center structure of the building.
Bearing wall in construction means the active structural element of the building which is holding the weight of different elements to construct the entire structure of the building.
Brick lintel is a structure in which the bricks are placed in the edge or on an end while constructing the building.
Building codes referring to a particular number with the ledger to ledger or ledger to standard codes of the building platforms are rested.
Cement is a particular material which helps to bind different substances and hardens them to find all the materials together. This is a primary requirement of building a project.
Concrete is another constructional material which helps to conceive the chemicals byhearting them into substances. It helps to aggregate the end result of cement and water bound together.
Door stop is an object which helps to keep the door open or stop them from banging on the wall continuously.
Easement depicts particular rights which are directly connected to immovable properties with enjoyment. Here the owners can occupy the land but the beneficial enjoyment of land is still objected to the owner himself
Eaves are the particular types of edges over the roofs that overhang from the face of a wall. Normally it is the size of different buildings.
Fresher is a particular term in architecture for vertical freeze or a band under the roof edge. It is formed as the outer surface of the Cornice.
Fall Protection Measures
Gable is a triangular section of the wall which is at the end of the peach roof. It extends the eaves of the peak. This creates the slope within the roof design.
Gutter is considered to be a discharge system of the building’s water. It is generally used for rainwater that will run off from the roof and discharge it through the downpipes into the drainage system.
Insulation in buildings are considered to be energies where it will provide resistance to heat flow and it will insulate the materials within the building for different temperature gaps.
Jamp is considered to be a sight post or a doorway lining that helps to create a vertical portion of the frame where the door will be secured.
Masonry is a structural form with the construction system able to build different walls which will perform the structural function of the entire building. This is the foundation from the ground for the building.
Moldings are considered to be decorative arts for the architectural buildings. This can be transactional as they make the project look more creative through jamb, capital, architrave, and cornice.
Painting is settled to be a predominant focus on the lies with the indoor and outdoor views will be different and it will be effective on the owners’ choices over culture, depth and perspectives.
Pavers are generally considered to be interlocking concrete pavers who are also called segment pavers. Break concrete clay and everything is used for paving purposes. The interlocking pavers are replaced by conventional materials in real life.
In classical architecture and scaffolding pedestal means a base for a column, obelisk, Vase or statue. These are vertical members of the entire structure.
Plumb are significant counterparts to a perfect horizontal floor or pool table. It is a synonym for a perfectly straight adjective.
Plumb Bob is a pointed weight which has a pointed tip at the bottom and a vertical reference line which provides the construction of a better measuring tool.
