Fundamental Technologies for Professional and Commercial Websites
The purpose of the report is to provide an optimal solution to the Hasna Child Specialist Clinic. They want to install internal internet and network connection in their clinic with proper devices. They have already selected the required devices for reception, doctors and medicine counter. In order to operate efficiently in their new clinic they want to pre plan the required resources along with an effective network design. This proposal will also identify the optimal local ISP in order to enable internet connection. This report will also present a budget report for the network implementation along with the possible designs.
1.2 Internet Service Provider
As the name implies, Internet service provider, provide subscription with access to internet. The connection is accessible through multiple technologies such as wireless, dial-up and cable modem. At beginning of the internet era, the internet accessibility was only limited among universities and government research laboratory. ISP were established to spread the internet connection the home and employees on several section.
The first ISP was established in 1990 at Brookline, Massachusetts. Typically, Inter service providers provides the ability to communicate with the internet through different services according to the customer needs. They also able to provide television services and other telephone services. ISPs provide different services according to the different pay rates which makes it popular for mass amount of households and small offices as well.
1.3 Web server
Web server is a system which returns files which are requested by the web browser. It utilizes HTTP to send the files through internet. Generally, every webserver consists of three main aspects as the physical server, server operating system and software which is used to facilitate the HTTP communication. Simply, web server response to the client HTTP request and provide content or services. Every website must connected with a web server in order to reach to client side. In the current market, hundreds of web server is available and providing service. Apache and Microsoft’s IIS are the most popular web server which is used by thousands of website. Any server that delivers an XML document to another device can be a web server. A better definition might be that a web server is an Internet server that responds to HTTP requests to deliver content and services.
1.3.1 Apache web server
Apache is one of the most popular web server in current market. It is an open source server which support most of the operating system including FreeBSD, Windows, Linux, Uniz a mac OS X. More over 60% of the computer utilizes the Apache server. It is easy to solve administrative issues in the apache server comparing to the other platforms.
1.3.2 IIS Web server
IIS is another popular server which provides most of same function as Apache. However, it is not an open source product hence adding personal modules is not easy (Karagiannis et al., 2015). It is a product of Microsoft and supports windows operating systems with optimal support.
Introduction to Internet Service Provider (ISP)
2. Internet service provider
There are dozens of ISP available in Malaysia which provides several type of services according to the pay scale and contracts.
After analysing Hasna Child Specialist Clinic network infrastructure, most suitable internet package has been identified below.
In order to enable communication among different department and other branches they need a high speed internet connection with efficient price. TM UniFi Biz 100 has been identified and recommended as the optimal internet package because of its functionality and services with affordable price. This internet package is provided by UniFi which is a service by Telekom Malaysia, offering Internet access, VoIP and IPTV to residential and business customers in Malaysia through an optical fiber network via fiber to the Home for individual housing units and VDSL2 for high-rise buildings.
2.1 Specification of the internet package:
TM UniFi Biz 100 is optimal for small and medium size offices and clinic as it provides superfast inter connection with 100 mbps speed. It also has a high coverage rate with unlimited download limit. This package cost RM 379.00 per month and the contract can be extended to six to twelve month as necessary. It is better to make the contract for a long period as ISP provides very effective offers for long time contracts and it will also lessen Hasna’s managerial activity to renew the package over and over.
According to UniFi, this specific package is ideal for web browsing, check emails, Skype, downloading and file transferring. With these functionality, it also provides free 400 minute voice call to all local networks. Additionally, this package provides free internet domain with 10 GB storage for web hosting servicing. It uses fiber optics to provide the internet connection for enhanced speed rate.

3. Network Design
3.1 Wired Network Design
Wired Network Design
Explanation: The above network design is proposed for the Hasna Child Specialist Clinic, where all the connection are constructed with wires. The design is constructed in a way that all computer is capable of communicate with each other as well as the server. The arrows of the connection shows the data flow among the network devices. Only printer connections are connected one way.
3.1 Wireless Network Design
Wireless Network Design
Explanation: The above network design is proposed for the Hasna Child Specialist Clinic, where all the connection are constructed without any wires. The design is constructed in a way that all computer is capable of communicate with each other as well as the server. In order to provide the wireless connection access point can be used. The wireless approach can be beneficial as it can be less expensive and easy to manage as well.
4. Web Hosting Server
Before selecting any web server, it is better to evaluate their functionality and advantages. There are hundreds of web server available in the market. Apache HTTP Web Server, Internet Information Services (IIS) and NGINX are the most popular web servers (Brügger, 2013). The advantages and disadvantages of the web servers are listed below:
4.1 Apache web server
Advantages:
- Apache HTTP Web Server is an open source platform which is available for free to anyone and n licence is required.
- One of the other advantages is multiple websites can be run from one server as it enables virtual hosts on the same server.
- Several websites all over the worlds provides numerous support and details. Hence, it is effortless to get assistant on any technical issues (Hosea et al., 2013).
Disadvantage
- Whenever constricting personalized protocol, it is frequently observe that some bugs are created. The need of debuggers has been essential to manage the personalized protocol (Adelman& Chadwick, 2015).
- Apache provides the ability to modify the configuration which can arises heavy risk to security.
- In apache, disabling and recognising unwanted modules and services can also create serious threats while leaving them in cloud.
Advantages
- The main advantage of IIS is it provides various add-on which are free to use as well. Search engine optimization toolkit, database manager, web deploy and web platform installer are the most popular product available.
- The GUI assist the users to utilize the functionality very effectively and it also has good integration with performance monitor (Comer, 2018).
- IIS provides hundreds of premium feature as IPv6 Support, Network Isolation, 99% Uptime Guarantee, Unlimited 24/7 Support, Web-Based Control Panel, Full CGI Access and many more (Canali, Balzarotti& Francillon, 2013).
Disadvnatges
- IIS is a Microsoft product and support only windows OSs. This is the main disadvantage as it cannot be used on other platforms.
- Development is not as open and quick as the open-source user-supported nature of Apache.
- It provides poor support as property of key cryptography that ensures a long-term key will not be compromised if a single component session key is compromised or broken.
4.3 NginX
Advantages
- NginX require very less memory as far more clients can be supported with minimum or no thread.
- NginX is marked as the highest performance server comparing with the Apache and IIS.
- It is more modern in design than alternative web servers.
Disadvantages
- It has less community support and documentation than Apache, but probably more than enough depending on your expertise and use case.
- It does not accommodate as many modules / extensions as Apache.
- NginX uses only 1.0 to interact with backend server.
5. Conclusion:
This report provides an optimal solution to the Hasna Child Specialist Clinic to install internal internet and network connection in their clinic with proper devices. TM UniFi Biz 100 is optimal for small and medium size offices and clinic as it provides superfast inter connection with 100 mbps speed. It is recommended along with the apache web server as it is open source platform and provide optimal support as well.
