Objectives of the Project
Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL), is one of the fastest growing construction company based in Australia (Pashendale.weebly.com, 2018). At present, the company is strategically planning to improve their marketing plans. According to Parker et al. (2016, p.25), a networked market has greater ability to operate its business as this platform connect them direct to their buyers. They are also aiming to develop customers’ experience while they would be visiting them online in their website. Recently, CEO of construction company, Virna Pashendale has approved to undergo a website development project. This required website designer to design website format, so that it can attract prospective customers. As Malaysia is a developing nation, it requires many infrastructure projects for its development projects. Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) has a greater future scope in this nation. Development of the website according to company objectives would provide many opportunities for this company.
New website of PHL aims to be simple, so that customers who are not so tech-savvy can easily surf through its pages. Get up of the website needs to be enriched with related information. Project managers would make sure that there are enough feedbacks or testimonials from existing clients, so that prospective customers can have a positive image of PHL. PHL is determined to serve better to its consumers. That is why, it wants company website to be user friendly. After completion of project, website would be extremely user-friendly, easy to operate and attractive. PHL also prefer to put necessary updates and information of company on their website. Because of this, consumers would be able to know news of finished, ongoing and upcoming projects of this construction company in Malaysia.
As per opinion of Kim and Mauborgne (2014, p.29), an informative and clear description of an organisation in public domain, helps to increase its market space. However, in this process there would be few implications, as Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) does not have a separate IT department for designing its website. According to Kerzner and Kerzner (2017, p.32), any project requires a proper plan to manage its execution, schedules and controls. This is why company has decided to outsource its project of website development to a website developer. The website designer and developer would be responsible for designing and testing of new version of website. This designer needs to ensure that the person has all necessary resources for developing official website of PHL. CMO of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) is responsible for acceptance of finished products from contractors of website design and development. Aforementioned project would be completed with a closure file from contractor. Contractor and associates have also agreed to provide appropriate technical support to newly developed website for PHL on a temporary basis. They would continue to support newly built website for few days after it is fully launched in public domain.
Systematic Plan and Execution
Appropriate execution of this project would require to compose a systematic plan divided in four phases. Each of these phases needs to separate evaluations by personnel of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL). They should do so before proceeding to next phase of website development. A tentative budget of project cost would be there in this Statement of Work (SOW). PFL personnel need to take care so that cost of project stays close to estimates. Following SOW would also include important milestones of this project with a stipulated timetable. This would act as a guide to schedule of this project.
Project designer needs to understand that Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) is determined to increase its business volume by marketing its achievements through its official website. Designer or developer has to include latest technological features such as SEO and web compatibility. This would enable PHL to be on top of a search results when a probable consumer searches for developers or construction companies. PHL does not want that website to be available for a limited period for their customers. Company wants to build up a fully functional website that would work 24×7. This is to ensure that new website can be available to each prospective client at any hour of day (Zheng et al. 2016, p.46). This is a strategy to increase the visibility of company website.
Developers have to keep it in mind that on its pilot stage, official website would be run on temporary basis. In later stage, it will be operational throughout all day. New website must have related images of ongoing and finished construction projects of PHL. Developer must ensure that it has a separate page for displaying high-resolution images of 3d-models of upcoming projects. These features would give a clear idea about developments of this company. This would also enable customers to understand professional capability of PHL.
It is important to mention that PHL has credibility in providing tailored solutions to construction problems to its clients. New website of this company should highlight this feature of PHL in its homepage. Homepage of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) website should present achievements, capability and professionalism of PHL concisely. After designing primary, get up of the website, developer needs to present it to company authority for approval. If new format get approval of authority, then only website developer can proceed further with new design. Design contractor should match design of new website to company objectives and vision of PHL. Summary of company vision, available in its existing website would be helpful in this matter.
Designing and Testing of New Website
Scope of a website development project includes designing, building, testing and operating of that website (King et al. 2016, p.339). Developer of website can get all necessary resources for content of this website from existing website of PHL. PHL would be glad to share any necessary information apart from this. Designer needs to contact with PHL for that purpose. New website would be better to have facility of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), so that website can reach to numerous numbers of people looking for property developers. For this, website developers can also use some Malaysian words and phrases in English version of website. Apart from this, new website must provide consumers facilities to translate website into more than 6 to 8 languages. Except English, website should include Malay, Tamil and other widely spoken languages in website. PHL thinks that this facility would make this website accessible to a larger group of Malaysian people.
In order to complete project of website development, designer needs to separate this project into small phases. PHL wants website designer to complete each phase within a limited timeline. Person tasked with website development must submit development of each phase within proper deadline. Overall, Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) wants project of website development to be completed within a stipulated period. Website developer should save a separate phase to train senior officials of PHLabout operation procedure of this new website. Website developer also requires providing operating procedures in written documents in format of a manual.
It has already been mentioned that PHL wants its new website to be more accessible and acceptable to its prospective and existing clients. For this purpose, PHL is providing a tentative list of requirements. Website contractor should strictly include all these enlisted factors in new website of PHL. For benefit of website contractor and for convenience of PHL, it is proposing to segment whole project into four distinctive phases.
Figure 1: Phases for website development
This is the planning phase for the whole project of website development. This stage would be followed by positive approval from PHL on primary design. First phase of project would include designing part of new PHL website. Contractor should include all listed items to design of PHL website. Deadline of this phase is fixed for 4 weeks after date of starting with development project. Contractor must submit project development to authority of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) at end of this deadline.
- Homepage of new website should demonstrate logo, name and tagline of PHL prominently. Website developer should present them in such way that they become first thing to be noticed by a visitor. According to study by Guo et al. (2016, p.121), using method of Semantic Differential (SD), developer can include emotional dimensions related to users to make homepage more appealing. For this, third party needs to understand who are target consumers of PHL. Homepage of new website should brief about PHL’s past, present and future strategy of operations.
- As per opinion of Yu and Kong (2016, p.430), in order to increase visibility of any website developers should include option of mobile optimisation. This would enable people to view this website from their handheld devices such as smartphones, tablets and other internet enabled devices. Because of this features, a larger number of people would be able to view Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL)website from any places.
- Homepage of website should also feature all other tabs containing separate information about company functions, strategy and achievements. It should also have a separate page to display its financial health as a construction company. These tabs would be placed at top margin of the page. Homepage would also include important quotations and remark of company CEO, Virna Pashendale. PHL wants a separate picture gallery in a separate page of new website to display all achievements of company. Homepage must have attractive HD images of locations, where PHL has previously built projects or is currently building up construction projects.
- PHL does not have an IT department as of now. Therefore, PHL does not want to take responsibility of coordinating job of contractor. The third party would solely be responsible for designing website as per requirements of PHL. Directors of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL)reserve complete discretion for giving necessary inputs to proposed design, as per requirements. Design contractor needs to adopt them in design and submit the design again.
- This phase would require contractor to have detailed discussion about design and structure of new website. Website Metrix would require contractor to use metric tools such as kissmetrics, Google analytics, woopra to understand functions, collect and analyse data of web to optimise usage of visitors (Seckler et al. 2015, p.42). As per study of Bekavac and Prani?evi? (2015, p.375), using web metrics tools enables designers to get information about pattern of behaviours of visitors.
- Contractor of website development should use proper information architecture to organise data of PHL. this phase would also includenavigation ergonomics, colour, contrast which would be decided by contractor with inputs from PHL authority.
- According to viewpoints of Pallud and Straub (2014, p.362), effective design of a website is capable of enhancing experience of visitors. User interface of new website should be user friendly. Structure of website should be compressible by any people of any age group. Icons used in new website should be in 3D format to easily attract visitors’ attention.
- PHL officials wish to run newly developed website on a temporary basis initially. After successful trial of redesigned website, it would be operational for 24×7 for visitors under domain of PHL.
- The training plan approved earlier would be operational at this point. Contractors of website designing would provide necessary training to officials and executives of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL), on how to operate redesigned website of PHL.
- In its weekly meetings, contractors needs to provide officials of PHL a written status of new website. Designer of website development needs to secure a host with formidable strength. Developer should choose a host, so that the person can put website there. People would be able to visit that website by reaching at that host. Stage of website hosting would also include buying a secure domain name. According to (2018, p.13), it is like string of identification for an area of particular administration.
- In this phase, website contractors requires to present proposal for the web design, they have chosen for PHL website. It should be transparent and properly planned. All points and features mentioned in design proposal should include in actual website. According to Hansmann and Stober (2018, p.24), website structure can provide basic idea of final get up of an website. Therefore, PHL wants indicative website structure from contractor in this phase.
- Design contractor needs to provide a detailedtesting plan that would include contents provided by PHL. Testing plan of this redesigned website would have two stages, one at the iLab of contractor and another one in front of PHL official to get final approval.
Website Features
In this last phase, contractors would provide all necessary documentations required for PHL. the documents would also include a closure report of this website development project. It would be reviewed and acknowledged by PHL in due time. Project contractor would then make sure that all tasks have been completed during this period. At this point contractor would also withdraw 24×7 technical supports at 11:59 of that particular day. The contractor has been providing this support for past few days in the observation stage. At completion of this project, contractor would require to submit a closure report. Approval of Pashendale Holding Ltd (PHL) officials is necessary to declare that particular project has been completed accordingly.
