The Significance of Communication
Discuss about the Business Communication.
The process of communication helps the individuals as well as the various business enterprises to convey the important as well as the necessary information or the message to the concerned entities (Alberts, Nakayama and Martin, 2015). Thus, it is seen that the concept of communication has gained a considerable amount of significance within the framework of the contemporary society (Vij, et al., 2015). It is generally seen that this process is being utilized by not only the individuals but at the same time the various business enterprises to express themselves and also to synchronize the goals of the individual employees associated with the business enterprise with the overall objectives of the concerned business enterprise (Amogne and Yigzaw, 2013). Therefore, it would be apt to say that this is one of the primary reasons for the significance which the concept of communication has gained in the present times. This paper will discuss about the concepts of oral communication as well as group communication through the perspective of an event I attended a while back.
Oral communication refers to the style of communication which is adopted by the various individuals as well as the business enterprises for the purpose of conveying the relevant information to the concerned entities by means of oral or verbal methods (Yanguas and Flores, 2014). Thus, it would be apt to say that in this particular kind of communication the primary focus is on the oral or the verbal communication skills of the person who is trying to convey the relevant information to the concerned individual whom the information is likely to affect in a significant manner (Brink and Costigan, 2015). Thus, it is generally seen that this is one of the most commonly used methods of communication adopted by the people not only for the process of one on one conversation but at the same time for the various kinds of verbal communication as well (House, 2014). Another kind of communication method which has gained a considerable amount of significance within the framework of the contemporary world is the concept of group communication. In the present day business world it is generally seen that the various business enterprises take the help of the construct of groups as well as the teams for the enhancement of the performance and the productivity of the overall enterprise and at the same time for the enhancement of the performance level of the concerned employees (Byrne, Flood and Shanahan, 2012). Thus, in a way it can be said that the various business enterprises need to take the help of various kinds of effective communication methods which are particularly suitable for the process of group communication with the objective to enhance the kind of communication which they are having with the inherent motive to gain better quality results (Broadbent, 2013). Furthermore, I would like to add in this particular context that the concept of group communication also becomes very important in the particular context of the individual human beings as it is generally seen that the human beings often come across situations wherein they need to address people within the framework of a particular group. Therefore, I have selected these two topics with the inherent objective to shed more light on these two important kinds of communication methods.
Oral Communication
A few months ago I attended an event wherein I was required to use the concepts of oral communication as well as the group communication methods. The event which I attended was actually a debate competition wherein the people from the different parts of our locality participated irrespective of their gender, social as well as economic status, cultural backgrounds and other factors. Therefore, I would like to comment in this particular context that through the event I was being able to learn a lot of valuable things about the manner as well as the way of life of the people of our community. The debate competition was actually a kind of social get together where the people from the different parts of the locality got to know about each other at the same time they were given a platform wherein they were able t raise their opinion about the beliefs as well as the opinion which they held. Therefore, I would say that there was much enthusiasm on the part of the people who had attended the event not only because they meeting each other after a very long period of time but also because of the fact that they were being provided with an opportunity wherein they could articulate their opinion about the about the ways by means of which the local community could reduce the amount of pollution which was being caused by it. Thus, the majority of the individuals who had attended the event were provided with the opportunity with to articulate their views on the topic which was under discussion and at the same time to provide various kinds of effective solutions which in their opinion would reduce the high level of pollution which the locality was causing at the current moment. I myself was provided with the opportunity to articulate my views on the topic and at the same time to provide some recommendations by means of which the problem could be mitigated.
I would like to comment here that at the event which I am describing in this paper I was required to use not only the process of oral communication but at the same time group communication process as well. For example, during the speech which I gave I was required to use the oral means of communication as at the stage I had no other option left but to use my oral communication skills for the purpose of driving home the point which I was trying to articulate. At this particular point of time I would like to mention that I used various tricks of the process of oral communication like the modulation of my voice to drive home the message which I was trying to articulate in the most effective manner. Furthermore, apart from the modulation of voice I also tried to use the concept of using pauses and stressing on the words which I felt was important during the speech which I gave. Moreover, the effective as well as clear articulation of each word also helped in a significant manner and I personally feel that the use of these features not only significantly improved the quality of the speech which I delivered but at the same time helped me to convey the message which I was trying to deliver in a much more effective manner. The process of group communication, on the other hand, also helped me a lot during the entire course of the event. I would like to comment here that before going to this particular event I was not sure as to whom I am going the entire course of the evening as I hardly knew any people related to the event and even most of my friends were not going to attend the event. Therefore, when I reached the venue I was not sure as to how I would spend my time out there. However, during the course of the event I was able to interact with a number of people not only from own age bracket but also with people from the other age brackets as well. The concept of group communication helped me in a significant manner during my interaction as well as the communication with these people from different cultural and social backgrounds. I would like to comment at this particular juncture that I had very rudimentary kind of information about the concept of group communication and the little knowledge which I had I tried to use that in the most effective manner for the process of carrying on the conversation with the other members of the group. Thus, I adopted the policy of actively listening to the things which the other individuals of the group were trying to convey and speaking only when my turn came or I was required to speak. Furthermore, the skill of active listening also helped me to understand the topic which was being discussed by the other individuals associated with the group and respond to them in an effectively manner. Therefore, I personally believe that the use of the concepts of oral communication as well as group communication helped me in a significant manner during the entire course of the event.
At this particular juncture I would like to mention that at the time when I attended the event I did not have enough knowledge about the concepts of oral communication as well as group communication and thus I was not being able to use them in an effective manner at that particular point of time. However, now when I look back on the event in the light of the knowledge which I have gained during the course of this last semester I would say that I would have been able to communicate in a much better manner and also would have been able to deliver the speech in a much better manner had I been aware of the concepts of oral communication as well as group presentation and the skills which are required for the use of these communication styles in the most effective manner.
To conclude, the concepts of oral as well as group communication have emerged as important concepts within the framework of not only the modern day business world but also in everyday life as well. The use of these concepts is likely to help a particular individual in a much better manner and also to drive home the points which they are trying to make in the most effective manner. Therefore, it would be apt to say that the use of these concepts has become imperative ones for the various individuals of the present times.
