The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of communication system in the business context. Business communication is at the heart and soul of the coordinating as well as sustaining organizations that affect the professional working life of an individual. Through proper understanding of the various facets of the business communication, the employees of the organizations maintain the flow of information in the workplace. There are various theories and models to follow by the organizations to collect information from the internal and external places and share them to their employees. The essay will discuss the importance of each weekly concepts in accordance to the weekly activities, conduct a literature review on the inert-cultural communication methods and show how two of the concepts for future career aspirations may be applied.
Thesis statement- communication is the most effective way to enter new market, maintain information flow in the workplace and solve most of the business operation problems with ease.
During the course, I have understood the importance of each weekly concepts in accordance to the weekly activities. In the Week one the concept and definition of communication has been understood. This particular activity has helped me a great deal in understanding the purpose of communication in this recent era of business competition (Powless & Schafer, 2016). Supported by different communication theories and models of communication, I have clearly understood that different models of communication are mend for different types of working culture. This may have different channels to increase the competence of the organization by improving the communication culture of the workplace
In the week two I found the module to be the continuation of the effective business communication process in which the employees of the organizations indulge in both verbal and non-verbal communication. Through this particular module I have understood that the communication process becomes effective only when the communicators properly listen to the others. This module has stressed upon the non-verbal communication method in identifying its different factors such as Proxemics, kinesics and paralanguage that affect the immediacy of the communication system. This module is also closely related to the listening process so that the response method attains efficiency and relevancy according to the issues of communication.
The week three module is purely based on the differences found in the differences between the verbal and written communication process both of which are used in the successful operation of any business management. Through this particular module, I have understood that the essentiality of written communication is more than the verbal one in the current business context. The module has detailed different types of written communication system, like Email, Memorandum, resume or CV, employment letters, reports, memos, manuals and newsletters. This type of communication is much more dependable as based on these the authorities convey their messages and listen to the employees
Weekly Concepts of Business Communication
Week four module has helped me to understand the importance of academic writing. The purpose of this type of writing has been connected to the credibility of the sources while writing business communications. In week four, I have learnt that roper knowledge of the sentences, grammar and paragraphs make the write communication more effective and error free so that I can reflect exactly what I am thinking and related those to the researches on the topic.
Week five module teaches me to be focused on the research process on the business communication topic. Through literature review, I have learnt how the previous studies on one particular topic can help me to further my knowledge and affect the thinking process. This activity in the course has taught me to justify the choice of research questions or hypothesis, theoretical and conceptual frameworks and methodological choices so that I know how I can increase my knowledge in one specific topic. Moreover, this is also related with the reflective writing pr5ocess which is greatly helpful in the process of personal assessment by finding out the strength and weaknesses.
Week six module clearly defines the process of professional presentation. It has focused on the importance of organizing various approaches to the public speaking and understanding and overcoming the communication apprehension or anxiety by defining various types of speaking in the professional context. through this module I have understood how to develop a contingency plan to manage any wrong in the communication. In this regard, I have realized that proper understanding of the audience is fairly necessary and then the presentation must be made otherwise the presentation will not be effective to reach their understanding.
Through the module of the week seven, I grow my knowledge about the importance of intercultural communication in successful communication in the workplace. As different cultural values manipulate the understanding and knowledge sharing process, the communication style becomes different. The expectations of the people of different culture are different hence the managers follow the face negotiation theory (Teunissen et al., 2017). This is the reason why I need to understand the communication style on high and low context cultures thus grow Interculturally competent in communication.
The week eight module directly links communication with the business organizational context. This details the impact of organizational structure in the communication process. I think the formal and informal communication networks are dependent upon the structure based on which the wheel, chain and centralized or decentralized system have been built (Purnell, 2018). Through this module I have understood that the communication channels and network structure is different in different organization or the departments of the organizations so the management use them according to the need of the business.
Inter-Cultural Communication Methods
Week nine module mainly discusses the difference between the group and teams so that the style of communication can be separated. This also discusses the impact of communication on the group discussion aspect. Group discussion emergence relates to the orientation, conflict, emergence and reinforcement which help the companies to avoid conflicts among the employees and departments (Kinloch & Metge, 2014). This also eases the characterization of the group discussion process.
As detailed in the Week ten module, the importance of interpersonal communication and interpersonal communication in the successful operation of the business. I have realized that the employees of the organization need to indulge in the self-talk or intrapersonal communication so that they can maintain a good and efficient interpersonal communication (Kälin, 2017). This is the way to transform the negative or passive communication style into assertive communication. I think effective leader need to have mastery in socio-communicative styles based on which they grow supportive and maintain the employee engagement in the business organizations by solving different level of problems through effective communication style.
As mentioned by Abugre (2018), due to expansion of western MNCs in the different parts of the world, inter-cultural communication has gained its importance. This particular article has defined the barriers faced by the western expatriates in operating their business in the sub-Saharan Africa. They are compelled to adapt the communication skills preferred by the local employees, supply chain, customers and other stakeholders (Mironova & Shevchenko, 2016). This particular research has argued that there are the needs for the obligations of the opposing cultural communication patterns of the expatriates as well as the local staff. According to the article of Wan (2017), the Variation Theory can effectively analyze some problems relating to the East-West Comparative literature, as the discipline. The perspectives of imagology of the Variation Theory and Sinicization of western literary theory are different. This is the reason why more attention needs to be given to the new paradigm of the comparative literature studies which may affect the business formal written communication.
In order to apply two of the concepts for future career aspirations, it can be stated that in order to effectively operate in the business organization, I need to use the communication style more aptly. In order to reach the audience, I need to properly listen to the others and understand the matters between lines. As detailed in the module week two, the effective communication is based on the verbal and non-verbal messages which connect the employees to one another as well as with the management (Young & Schartner, 2014). Through the active listing procedure, I can be able to read the verbal message as well as the message shared though body language, paralanguage and proxemics thus increase the efficiency in communication style. On the other hand, as mentioned in the week 6 module, I have understood my weaknesses in the communication apprehension which affects my presentation power maintaining the purpose. Therefore, I need to be more specific in detailing my communication style so that the audience perfectly understand what I want to convey exactly (Liu et al., 2015).
Therefore, it can be concluded that importance of communication is unavoidable in business context. The employees of the organizations as well as the managers to maintain the flow of information within the workplace through effective communication and solve problems with ease. Therefore, I need to focus more in developing communication skills so that I can fit myself in the current business context.
