Argument Assessment Objectives:Upon completion of this assignment, you will demonstrate:
- that you can recognize, appreciate, and understand the issues confronting writers, including style, organization, and tone
- that you can use evidence to support a claim
Directions:Isolate and assess the effectiveness of Solnit’s examples and evidence. Keep in mind that her argument is often layered. Note page and ¶ number for each of the three categories—Evidence (facts & examples), Appeals (ethos, pathos, logos), and Language (word choice/figurative language) for one section of text in chapters 2-4. Then identify her claims and explain how the categories of rhetorical strategies relate to the claims. [250-350 words total]
Note: a section of text can be defined how you want–a ¶ minimum, probably.
