Part 1: Write a Paragraph
Writing Assignment 1 Prompt
Your writing assignment is to craft a 250-350 word source summary. As you’ve learned in this module, a source summary contains the following key elements:
- an introduction to the source
- an introduction to the topic
- an overview of the source’s main argument
- an overview of the source’s supporting points
- an overview of the evidence used to demonstrate and substantiate the supporting points and main argument
- in-text and reference citations in APA format
Your job, then, is to write a short summary essay of the source, one that includes information on all of the elements listed above. Below is the source and attached is the document
Waxman, S. (2007). Stars check in, stars check out. New York Times. Retrieved from www.nytimes.com/2007/06/17/fashion/17rehab.html
Part 2: Answer the questions. Similar to the paragraph
1. Introduce the source.
introduce the source’s author, title, and publication year.
2. Describe the source’s main argument.
write 1-3 sentences that provide an overview of the source’s main idea or argument about the topic. Be sure it is clear that the ideas and argument are the author’s. Use language such as “asserts,” “argues,” “demonstrates,” and “states” to indicate the ideas are the author’s, rather than your own.
3. Describe the points and evidence used throughout the article to support the main argument.
write a paragraph where you discuss the points and evidence used in the source to support the main argument. Be sure it is clear that the ideas are the author’s. Remember: You can choose to address the points and evidence in the same order they are presented in the source, or you can choose to discuss points and evidence in related clusters.
