Assignment for I.Q., Integrating Quotes
A. Find examples of each of the eight patterns for integrating quotes from any essays in NFG, except for the personal narratives.
B. Following the examples here, type up the complete sentences where you find each type, after you list each type. I haven’t memorized which pattern is which number, so do label each example. No label, no credit.
Please leave my template in bold and you write in non-bold. Find your own examples. Do not create examples using quotes you take. Just find quoted material already in place. Do not copy mine.
Remember to list the author/page in the parenthetical/in-text citation.
Do not use dialogue or song lyrics for this assignment. Stick to quotes you find, in place, in the essays in our NFG textbook.

I.Q. Examples: Your name
1. At the beginning:
“With the growth of the prefontal cortex, animals become more and more flexible in their behavior,” Professor Miller said (qtd. in Tugend 716).
2. In the middle:
She feels “fragile, unstable,” worried that when her sandal catches on the sidewalk, she will fall and there will be no one to take her to the emergency room (Kakutani 773).
To submit: attach your Microsoft Word document right here in Blackboard. Make sure that it has a proper heading: Your name, my name, class/section, I.Q. (for the assignment name), and the day you submit it. For the title: Eight Sample Patterns of Integrating Quotes.
Follow MLA 2009 guidelines. (See Blackboard, Basic Information, MLA folder for more information if needed.)
