Interpersonal Communications_reflection
Interpersonal skills are the tools people use to interact and communicate with individuals in an organizational environment, in our case, a healthcare environment. There are seven main areas of interpersonal communication:
· Verbal communication
· Non-verbal communication
· Listening skills
· Negotiation
· Problem-solving
· Decision-making
· Assertiveness
Interpersonal communications skills are not innate skills. They require time and work to develop competence.
Please reflect on a situation when you felt a communication breakdown occurred between yourself and another person.
1. Describe/summarize the situation
2. What was it about the situation that makes you feel that communication broke down?
3. What behavioral response took place?
4. What was within your power to control in the situation?
5. What could you have done differently to support a more positive outcome?
