Introduction
The emergence of technology and particularly its incorporation into business has over time been attributed to bring success and ease most of the day to day procedures in most firms in the world today. Information technology has hence fostered a number of innovations in the world of business. The internet, management information systems, and software has greatly impacted the business world by transforming and facilitating the development and growth of many firms to international standards. Information technology has given most firms their competitive advantage over most of their rivals in business. Companies are fast turning to information technology-related strategies to boost and streamline their services and procedures hence has become a rather essential feature (Powell, Horstmann, & Predmore, (n.d.)). Technology is hence crucial and necessary for business. This paper, therefore, seeks to shed a light and address the relation between the business-driven management information systems, value-driven businesses, E-business and information security.
Business-driven management information systems
Management information systems have over time become crucial to businesses as they play quite a significant part in organizations. One of their most renowned roles in business is their support in making some of the most crucial and most often delicate decisions in the decision making process. The management information systems can be used by all levels of management in a firm while the supervisors deploy it in the daily operations. The management information system hence optimizes all processes and procedures to ensure the efficiency of the whole system. Many firms depend on such information technology system as they collect, analyze and give a detailed report of the firm’s performance based on data fed to help in decision making which is the core of many businesses (“Management information systems and business decision making: review, analysis, and recommendations.”, (n.d.)). Management information systems are rather delicate and complex hence managers and business owners who use them need to be cautious else data could be wrongly collected and analyzed leading to errors in decision making which could be detrimental to businesses as consequences are quite dire.
Value-driven businesses
A value-driven business is a business concept whereby the business structure affects all forms of brands and procedures in a firm. Most often value-driven businesses are dependent on quality and client satisfaction. To ensure the value-driven business is proactive and profitable, the employees may need to be productive which may prompt the management to treat them with the utmost respect and treat them as equal members of the firm. Alternatively, customers need to be loyal and show a great preference for the products and services produced by the firm. Regardless of any errors and faults that may be occasionally experienced. With this type of business, many business owners have attributed the success of their businesses to their employees and consumers hence will often live stress-free. Everyone is hence part and puzzle of the business guaranteeing a foreseeable future to the firm through building ethics and relationships (Cohen, & Warwick, (n.d.)).
E-business
In the new age and era where technology seems to dominate every aspect of our lives, there have been developments in the business world as well. Industries have in recent times taken up new business initiatives to manage their internal processes within their business premises. In the times we live in, the economy if not solely based on the human and capital resources. Instead, technology has facilitated the collection of information to ensure that firms stand to gain a competitive advantage against their rivals to gain a bigger market share. E-businesses mainly take advantage of the internet as a communication channel between customers, the management and distributors as a business strategy. Businesses have the capability to run blogs, websites, and marketing strategies over emails and social sites successfully. For many companies, the most used advertising platform is the Google search over the Google AdWords function. Firms taking advantage of the e-business strategy mainly depend on software designed in the running and management of the enterprise.
Information security
More and more businesses are being connected to the internet as a strategy to develop networks to establish a strong market position in the global economy. Businesses transact severally over the internet hence the need for stronger and better security measures. Most firms, particularly those that are starting up, do not diversify in terms of recruiting an IT team to ensure that their security is upheld. This hence has led to the assumption that the size of the company has a hand in determining if the firm will have a definitive IT security team. Every decade there is a new threat that could pose as an issue to firms which are increasingly becoming more complex by the day. Worms and viruses affect a huge number of firms in the world which cause harm and losses to firms. Most often, firms fall prey to security attacks after opening unsecured links and emails over a company’s network leading to an override in the company’s systems (Powell, Horstmann, & Predmore, (n.d.)). Firms hence need to take up strategies and procedures to ensure the security of their systems.
Relationship between business-driven management information systems, value-driven businesses, E-business and information security
Firms in the global economy in the 21st century have embraced the use of innovations in science and technology particularly information systems to drive up their profits. Corporations are connected to the internet for various reasons among them being; to best reach their clients, gather and store information and as a communication channel just to name a few. Management information systems have become the core of many businesses. Information systems have revolutionized many businesses and in most cases, positive impacts have been felt. For many businesses, particularly e-businesses and the value-driven business, information systems are crucial this way they can reach as many people address their needs as their customers make significant members of their corporation. It is, however, imperative that all firms safeguard and protect the information entrusted to them hence the need to constantly upgrade their security system and recruit capable members of their IT staff.
