Forum Topic:
The purpose of this conference is to exchange ideas about intrusion detection and Prevention. Based on the reading and discussion in the course or any other source: What can we do to help prevent intrusion in our databases?
Forum Discussion:
The first line of defense that should be put in place to deal with intrusions in a database is an intrusion detection system (IDS). There are a wide variety of IDSs that may be used to monitor a network and database servers for intrusions such as Snort and Zeek. In addition, Oracle supports intrusion detection through its Session Border Controller. (SBC) The SBC uses anomaly-based detection to look for intrusions into an Oracle database (Oracle Corporation, n.d.). The system checks SIP messages to see if their format differs from the format defined in the SIP RFCs (Oracle Corporation, n.d.). If the message has a different format, then it is either repaired or simply rejected based upon the severity of the situation and the administrator’s settings (Oracle Corporation, n.d.).
