The topic of the project is gonna be : Phonology (sounds pattern)
1. (Do it in word document first) Open a Google Doc through your SMC Gmail account. Write an explanation of the topic you have chosen for your project. (Remember, the project will include research, a formal outline, and a Google slide presentation.) Please explain your focus, why you chose this topic, what you already know about it; and at least two sources of information you have found that you plan to use. Please note that you must use source material outside your textbook for this project, and if you would like to interview someone, that counts as a primary source; just be sure to plan out your questions well. Also for this proposal it is important to write a list of questions that will guide your research (at least ONE good research question). For whatever topic you choose, you should read the related textbook chapter first to get a foundation. The purpose of this project is to research an area the expands upon what we are learning in class and to make a brief slide presentation to share with classmates. If your project is not related to linguistics or if it does not go beyond the information offered in the book and class, it will not receive a passing grade.
Please note: A URL is NOT a source. You should include a URL if you can with your source, but you must name the source (title, author, date of publication, etc), not just copy a link.
Decide which of these areas interests you the most, and make a related research question. In the past students have researched topics like this:
How did English become a world language?
What does a speech pathologist do, and what education is required to become a speech pathologist?
What are the various forms of aphasia; how do they affect language; and what do therapists to do help victims of aphasia?
What is forensic linguistics, and what techniques do forensic linguists employ?
How much language can dogs learn to understand? How can dogs communicate with humans, and what are their limitations?
What is Singlish, how has it formed, and what is the Singapore government’s position on it?
