I need someone that read Mary Shelley’s frankenstein. Then I need them to anwer these questions in one to two paragraphs:
1- Not that kind of frame that I mentioned at the beginning with Walton. The Creature has learned much about how mankind operates, hasn’t he? Both the good and the not so good motives. In regard to William, what were the Creature’s first instincts?
How were they then turned into revenge? And how does Justine fit into this ugly little story?
2- How do you see Victor, who is the protagonist of the novel, in light of his actions? Why does he continue to rationalize why he must never tell anyone what he’s done? And how does your perception of him differ from Walton’s early adoration of this man?
3- How do you see the Creature’s character now? Does he rationalize his actions? Are his instincts that of a monster (in the way we have looked at monsters before? Think “The Scorpion and the Frog.”) Find examples to support your view?
4- We know that Prometheus came too close to the fire. We must assume from the title of the novel that Victor is the modern Prometheus.
Or is he? Here we are at the heart of the doppelganger or shadow self. Show examples from the text of how they shadow each other? In Chapter 10 when the Creature and Victor finally talk, it is the Creature who expresses the basic connection that they have to each other. “I expected this reception,” said the daemon. “All men hate the wretched; how, then, must I be hated, who am miserable beyond all living things! Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature, to whom thou art bound by ties only dissoluble by the annihilation of one of us.
Is the Creature a reliable narrator? He professes that he wants to adore Victor and be his loving servant as long as Victor will perform an action for him – only one request. Is he justified? It’s a big request. On many levels it makes sense, if one believes that the Creature is who he says he is.
Who is the God and who the monster? (You may be fed up with Victor at this point. Your sympathies I suspect are with the Creature.) Be careful here.
