This unit focuses heavily on the important role culture and cultural contexts play in IHRM, especially for employees and family members. Culture shock is something to be expected for any employee reporting to a new overseas assignment. Discuss any personal experience you have had with culture shock. This is something anyone traveling outside the United States may experience. Share your own experience with culture shock and how you handled it. Comment on what you might have done differently before departing if you had the opportunity. For those who have never experienced foreign travel, culture shock is something that also can occur when traveling throughout the United States into regions with different customs, language, and other factors. For example, some cultures do not shake hands.

CLASSMATE’S POST
Culture plays an integral part in International Human Resource Management by determining how effective practices can work in other global countries. Some of the practices cannot be exported and applied in some nations due cultures which people have been used to over a long time. Concentrating on human efforts in achieving the organization goals has been my aim when running operations in the human resource center. I found a different perception in the United States where their culture highlights strategies as the core component to focus when working towards organization objectives. It was necessary to shift my early culture of focusing on labor force and apply strategy in order to succeed.
