Research Participation Alternative Guidelines
Instructions: For EACH required research credit that you’d like to satisfy via this option, choose ONE topic that we covered in the course, and find ONE peer-reviewed psychology research article on it. A peer-reviewed article is one that is published in an academic journal (such as Psychological Science, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Law and Human Behavior), NOT a psychology or science magazine (e.g., Psychology Today, Scientific American) and NOT from a website such as Ask.com, a Wikipedia entry, or a blog. An empirical article is one that reports the results of a study (i.e., not just a literature review). You may use the references in the textbook as a guide, or use the PsycINFO online database (accessible from the library website) to search for an article. Read the article and then respond to the items below.
Goals: There are several goals for this assignment. You have the chance to choose a topic that you find interesting and dig a little deeper into what psychology has to say about it. This assignment is also designed to familiarize you with reading, understanding, and evaluating published psychological research, the sources from which the information you learn in psychology textbooks is taken.
