Create a one-page resume that reflects your current skills and job interests. Use multiple resources (your textbook, Kelli Greene’s presentation, Lynn Lewis’s presentation, and SJSU’s Career Center (Links to an external site.) handout for developing your resume). As Kelli points out, your resume represents the story of you.
Sections/information I expect you to include in your resume:
- your name, contact information (address, phone, email)
- URL for LinkedIn Profile
- education (reverse chronological order – this means SJSU at the top; do not include your high school diploma)
- skills
- projects
- professional experience
- activities
Generally, you’ll list education as your first heading, but it depends on your professional experience and the job for which you’re applying.
Also:
- Consider a personal branding statement (discussed in Kelli Greene’s presentation) rather than an objective.
- Identify your experience, talents, and strengths.
- Highlight achievements and accomplishments rather than simply describing jobs you’ve had.
Do not include:
- any personal information, such as marital status, age, religious affiliation
- any information from high school – you’re in college now
- any extraneous or tangential information – keep your resume concise and to the point
A note on resume fonts
Ever wonder what font options would be best for writing your resume? Forget about Times New Roman and Arial.

Spoiler alert: Times New Roman isn’t one of them.
