Examine Case 6.2 (p. 102-103) and consider the scenario in which you are the one supervising and/or mentoring a high-level leader such as CEO Courtney Sample.
Answer Case Questions 1 & 2, paying particular attention to the quote, “Sometimes, I want my followers to fear me,” and whether or not this dynamic is appropriate or desirable. If you believe it is at times something you have or believe is a valuable condition, what happens to the contract of respect between leader and follower based on the conceptual model of respect in leadership put forth by Clarke (2011)? If you do not believe having fearful followers is ever desirable, please explain. Reflect on any instances in which you have utilized a fearful dynamic as a leader, or had fear play a role in your relationship with a supervisor. What were the implications for respect in the relationship?
