Tectonic System of the Earth Outline
Question: How does the tectonic system of the Earth affect various regions of the world today?
I. Thesis Statement: The tectonic system affects every region of the world today via the interaction of tectonic plates and the resulting geological processes.
II. Pangea was the result of naturally occurring processes within the Earth’s crust.
A. Large tectonic plates cover the Earth.
a. The Earth geological processes are the direct result of the interaction of these plates.
i. Push together
1. One plate goes underneath another
ii. Pull apart
1. Split apart
iii. Slide by one another
1. Slip occurs which causes earthquakes
b. The interaction of these plates formed Pangea
i. The geological processes of push, pull, slip formed Pangea and ultimately caused the continents to separate
B. The continental drift theory is continually ongoing and affects populations today
a. Volcanos/tsunami
i. Push
b. Earthquakes
i. slip
a. One plates is subsumed by another where it is melted into magma and will be used again – spewed out by volcanos
b. When they split apart they are creating new land
III. Conclusion: In conclusion… Restate thesis statement in a different way. Mention again what you talked about.
