Clip that is being used (link below)

4A is the theory proposal which is included below. Base 4B off of that.
4B: Write a full research paper applying the theories to your particular clip. After you have identified and gotten feedback on the theories, locate two empirical research articles (at least 1 article for each theory) that study or test each theory with a survey, an experiment, or a qualitative study –NO CONTENT OR META ANALYSES. Be sure to read the entire article (not just the abstract).
Your full research paper should expand on your proposal. You should define the theory and what media effects it explains. Then for each research article/chapter/book, you should identify the theory the authors use, explain what they did and found in the study, and how it relates to your clip. You should summarize the key points in your own words.
Remember to use the empirical articles to back up your claims because they should provide similar evidence for what you are trying to argue but with a different stimulus. Be detailed about each study. One strong way to do this would be to discuss what would have happened if your chosen clip was used in the study as the stimulus material; how would the participants have reacted and why?
Here are the headings I would expect in your final research paper (but of course you may deviate):
- Introduction
- Broad statement about media or effect
- end with a thesis statement about the clip and what kinds of effects you argue it might have on audiences
- [Name of Theory 1]
- Paragraph 1: Define and explain theory
- Paragraph 2: Explain how theory relates to clip
- Paragraph 3: Academic source using Theory 1: explain what they did/found & how it relates to clip
- Paragraph 4: Second academic source using Theory 1: explain what they did/found & how it relates to clip
- Paragraph 5: Third academic source using Theory 1: explain what they did/found & how it relates to clip
- [Name of Theory 2]
- Paragraph 1: Define and explain theory
- Paragraph 2: Explain how theory 2 relates to clip
- Paragraphs 3: Academic source using Theory 2: explain what they did/found & how it relates to clip
- Paragraph 4: Second academic source using Theory 2: explain what they did/found & how it relates to clip
- Paragraph 5: Third academic source using Theory 2: explain what they did/found & how it relates to clip
- Conclusion
- Why is this important
- What are its broader implications
- How might a future research project study this
Formatting:
All parts of the assignment should use APA formatting, be 12pt font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 1 inch margins. You should have page numbers in the upper right hand corner. References should start on a new page. 4B should be no longer than 7 pages (not including cover page or references). For the full paper, we expect you to use 2-3 academic sources per theory.
Tips
- To find academic articles use the following library databases: Web of Science, PsycINFO, JStor, or Google Scholar (sometimes GS will give you non-academic sources so be careful!).
- Give yourself time to find academic sources. You will have to read more than the required number of sources to find and identify those that are actually relevant and should be included in the annotated bibliography.
- Each part requires in-depth research and analysis.
